A little Advice Please

Alright doctor,

In the year 2005 I a had unprotected sex with a female who said that she did not have any STDs, but a while afterwards I'm really not sure how long it was since I stopped having sex with her before I began to have what I think is an outbreak of some sort.  I have a reocurring single hard bump in my pubic area its not painful unless I press it or squeeze it and still the pain is minimum. The bump never leaks and it does not bleed. I won't even notice its there , unless I do a self check and Ive been doing that since the first bump appeared. I have't worked up the courage to get tested yet, but I will, I'm just dreading the fact that I may have contracted herpes.  Can herpes be a single Hard bump that does not become a sore?

For God's sake, see a doctor -- immediately!  And don't have sex with anyone until you do.  Get type-specific tests for Herpes 1 and 2.  Get tested for other STDs, as well.  If you receive a positive result for Herpes 2 (HSV2), do NOT panic.  Rather, have yourself retested with a confirmatory (more accurate) test called a Western Blot.  The Western Blot for Herpes can be performed at the Univ of Washington in Seattle.  Your doctor may not immediately know how to order this test, but I assure you that it can be ordered.  If you want the MOST accurate test results regarding Herpes 1 and 2 (understanding that no diagnostic test is 100% accurate), you should have a Western Blot.  And, as I said, anyone who tests positive for Herpes 2 (and is likely to become emotional upset by that result, which can be expected), most certainly should have the Western Blot test to be determine whether your initial test accurately came out positive for Herpes 2 or whether you received a false positive test result.
