When will it end?!

For two weeks or so I believed I was suffering from a UTI as my urine was an odd colour and slight discomfort going for a wee. Barely noticeable.

One week ago I noticed three small lumps on my inner labia and thought nothing of it, and my partner performed oral.  However, the day later I was in excruciating pain urinating and sitting down, yet continued to go to a gym class.

That night I grabbed a mirror and discovered the three spots were now open pus-filled sores and I had horrific sores on the entrance to my vagina as well as what looked like a tear on my perineum and my labia was extremely swollen.

Two days later I booked an emergency appointment with the nurse and she said it was herpes with around 12 sores and prescribed me aciclovir (5 tablets 5x a day) - she didn’t say what stage I was at.

I am now beginning day three on these tablets and I am still in pain. The sores are healing but the sores on the entrance to my vagina and perineum are still horrific. I have also noticed a rash and the pain at night is keeping me awake.

I feel like I can’t continue with these and I’m due to start my period soon (unless I carry on taking my pill) and can’t begin to think how that will complicate things.

I just want it all to clear up and to go back to normal. I’ve not been 100% myself since realising how serious it is.

Can anybody relate or say how long their outbreak lasted?

7 days into visible symptoms and it’s my birthday in 4 days. I’ve got so many plans for it and currently I just want to cancel them all and stay in bed

Your period blood shouldn't cause any problems.

The nurse should have taken a swab sample.

Maybe get a blood test now and if it's positive it's most likely an old infection. If it's negative retest in 12 weeks.

Or have your partner test.

HSV symptoms typically don't last more than 3 weeks. Less with antiviral treatment. The sooner into the outbreak the antiviral are taken the more effective they are. Taking your antivirals during your period won't cause any problems.

Also, how were you diagnosed?
50% of visual hsv diagnoses are incorrect.

My issue with being on a period at the same time is the pain of keeping it clean right now as it is ha!
In regards to diagnosis, I was in the nurse’s room for five minutes. She examined me with literally a glance, don’t even think she examined everywhere. She then prescribed me tablets and said I could look it up online.
My lesions are clearing, I’m only in pain if I sit in a certain position or move too quick. However this pain is coming from a rash in between my butt cheeks.
It is just the fact I know what’s going down on there, it’s not nice and it’s constantly at the back of my mind!
