Biokit Test

I am scheduled to get a Biokit HSV 2 Rapidtest tomorrow. I am still not sure if I should go to the appointment. My recent IgG tests were as follows:

June 5- 1.59
June 26- 1.60

I had not had any known OB prior to getting diagnosed and starting Valtrax. Everything I feel and see now I question if it is an OB. Any advice would help. Thanks so much.

Thanks so much for your response. I have been doing pretty good with accepting that I have HSV 2 considering the tests results. The difficult part was waiting on my ex and current partner to get tested. Both came back negative. I am also frustrated with the Doctors that I have seen and talked to. They all give me different information and advice. None of them are aware of the Biokit tests. It drives me crazy. I am going to get the test done tomorrow but was not sure if it was worth it due to having two positive tests.

Well I went this morning to get the Biokit test and it came back negative. I did not meet with the Doctor until the end of the 2 hr appointment. After she told me that my results were negative I shared my two recent positive tests. At this time she told me that I should trust the two positive tests over the Biokit test. What the hell? So I just traveled out of town and spent $300 for a negative test that means absoluetly nothing.

Yeah I don't know what to think or do. It is frustrating for things to be so unclear. It is beyond having HSV at this point. I just hate the way that I am being told different things constantly.

I wouldn't even remotely begin to think that your hsv1 is genital. Odds are that you just started being hyper aware of your genital area and had anxiety about it all and once you relax about all of this, it'll all go away ( well except for the yeast infections, they are totally unrelated ).

Odds are that your hsv1 is oral like most adults.  About 60% of us have hsv1 orally but only 20-40% of us ever get obvious cold sores to know it. It's incredibly common and the most likely area you are infected in since this was just a general screening.

I went for a regular check up and they tested. I did not havey any symptoms and she said everything looked good. Still not sure why she tested me at that time. I never had any symptoms prior to being diagnosed that I know of. I started to feel nerve pain and yeast infections like symptoms after being diagnosed. I am assuming that I have GHSV 1 at this time.

Hey Marie, I originally got the HerpeSelect IgG Type Specific test. My results were as follows.

HSV-1 5.00

HSV-2 3.95

I got retested with the WB right after all my confusion due to the fact I never really had any Herpes symptoms down there. I didn't get my WB paper in the mail but I did get them read over the phone.

HSV-1 Positive

HSV-2 Negative

I didn't want to waste my time anymore with other tests so I went straight for the WB.

You do not need to see any specialist at this point.

Remind me - originally when this all started - did you have genital symptoms or was this all just a general screening due to an encounter you had?  I'm just about ready to leave the house so I don't have time to go back thru prior posts right now - thanks!

Read Dr. Handsfield's post on the tests scores. His point is that a 3.5 is actually positive and in your range you are more likely (not guaranteed) negative.  The next issue is what do you do.  I suggest that you go to an Infectious Disease Doc, specializing in STD's and show him/her results.  If they can not make a definitive conclusion or cannot say you are positive, then one school of thought says stop there because it could only go downhill.  You would be just like 10 zillion others who may be positive but have never been tested. Or do you have the more comprehensive, exact test and truly confirm a positive (or negative).  It is a big dilemma, but I would really think about it.  Why mess up your life, if U do not have to?

Hey Anstew! Congrats on your results. What is your history of testing and the results from these tests. As you can read above that I have been through a lot of testing. I have had a rough 3 months. Finally got an answer. I never had any symptoms prior to being diagnosed and then shortly began feeling different down there. Not sure if it is in my mind or what. Time will tell. I have a lot of side effects from the Valtrax but decided to take it after being told last week that I was positive for HSV 2. Never had a thought that I was positive for HSV 1 due to never having an OB. Then today I read the results myself and realized what was going on. I don't think that I will take the medication unless need be. We will see.

Hey Marie I got my WB back a few days ago too! I was HSV-1 positive and HSV-2 Negative. I had already been prescribed some Valtrex that I waited to take until after my test was done. I considered if I even need it since I thought Valtrex was for genital Herpes. I took mine regardless because I do have HSV of the mouth. I mean what harm could it do right? Also why are you assuming your HSV is genital do you have symptoms there?

Just picked up my test results today for the Western Blot.

"Positive for antibody to HSV-1  and negative for antibody to HSV-2." Not aware if I have oral or genital. Assuming genital... What the heck is going on? Any advice would be helpful. I am not sure if I should take Valtrex or not. What is the transmission rate for OHSV 1 and GHSV 1?

treesnake is correct - as are the many posts I just looked up by grace. Get the Biokit - it's a highly accurate test, and in this case is exactly what you want. Your IgGs were a low positive and you need a confirmatory test.

I think the Biokit trumps the low positives. Post on the dr. board, I think they will tell you the same thing.
