Yeast or Herpes?

Dear Med Help,

I have been in a 3 year monogamous relationship with my partner who experiences cold sores but does not have an STI. We traveled to a warm climate 4 days ago. We had sex without doing our usual shower routine, the next day walked in extreme heat for a few hours and the next day I started experiencing tenderness in around my vulva. I went to a pharmacist and they gave me an antifungal pill and cream. I have been using it for just over 24 hours and it has been extremely uncomfortable. I just inspected the area and now there are soars over most of my vulva and they are becoming quite red. I am worried. Could this be herpes from my partners cold sores?

There is the possibility that this could be herpes from your partner's oral HSV1 infection. It could be other things too.

It is best to present yourself to a doctor for a swab of the sores immediately. Specifically request that it be tested for HSV, PCR is preferable, if only culture is available then request that it be properly typed.
