acyclovir not preventing outbreaks

was diagnosed only about 3 months back for hsv2.  I had  outbreaks for over two years, but not often, and not very bad ones.  Even had a dosctor look at it over two years back and he told me he didnt think it was herpes.  So i lived with the non-frequent outbreaks.  However, about 4 or 5 months back,  I had an outbreak that seemed much more severe, and lasted for like 2 weeks.  It went away for a week or so,  then another outbreak...   And again, and again,  Because of this I returned to the health dept and insisted on a bloodtest to determine, and sure enough, They said yes I have genital herpes.
So they prescribed ACYCLOVIR 400 to take twice daily, or 3 times if an outbreak.   I have been on the meds for over 2 months now - BUT YET,  I continue to have an outbreak at least once a month , lasting 12 plus days...  WHAT IS THE PROBLEM???   Is there any other meds that might be more effective???  Anyone else have this problem???   Any help or advise is much appreciated!

certainly call and find out what your actual test results were to post here - e.g. hsv1 igg  4.5 and hsv2 igg 6.7 or whatever they are. that way I can help you determine if you had proper testing done or not.

even though it's a pain, go back to be seen every time you have anything going on genitally. best way for them to determine what is going on.

1) please make sure you tested with an hsv2 IGG test that is type specific. You should also kno the numerical value associated to your test results to make sure it wasnt a "low positive". Were your symptoms cultured?? or did u just have the blood test?

2) were u tested for other STDs or genital issues/ bacterial/ jock itch/ yeast?  Not everthing is due to herpes.
