after all these years

I've known my wife has had hsv2 since I met her over 17 yrs ago. We never have protected sex but we're as careful as possible and obstain for a week after all is clear. She's always cautious about transmitting it to me.
About a 4 days ago I noticed a mosquito type bite on the right side of my groin. It was unusually tender in the area. I believe the lymph nodes were tender but not large. I scratched that area without alarm and today the irritated area is about an inch long and maybe 1/2 inch wide. The tenderness is gone but the itchyness remains.
Two days ago I notice what looked like a mosquito bit on the underside of the crown (just at the top) of my penis. There was no pain etc I just noticed it.
In the two days since I noticed it there have been relatively no changes except the center of that area does appear to be a bit red (no pain etc) but it should not be there.
Prior to this my wife and I were abstinent for about 10-12 days due to her period etc. She has no breakouts in 4 mnths.
possible considerations:  I thought maybe a bug was in my bathing suit as it was left outside to dry. I must mention that if i lay my penis towards my right groin, the areas match. perfectly.

I'm an avid runner aprox 5 miles a day. There are occations when i sweat heavily and remain in the clothes for extended periods. That are is can at times become irritated though to my knowledge i've never had the same symptoms before. I also never had jock itch and thought maybe this could be the cause.

I guess I'm fortunate in that in the worst case I have what my wife has so we'll just have to live with the inconvenience of it. The physical symptoms i do have present no pain aside from the itchy spot on my groin/pelvis.

ultimately, my question is it unusual that after all these years, this would be the way I finally got it or is there still an outside chance that this is related to a fluke bug bite of jock itch of some kind?

Thankyou

Whoops, I see that you mentioned earlier that she has HSV 2, sorry about that.

You don't state whether you have ever actually been tested to see if you are also infected.  Also, does she have HSV 1 or HSV 2 genitally?  If you have never been tested either before you got married or after, it is probably time to do that and see if you are actually infected but perhaps didn't know it.  Most transmission of herpes happen when there are no sores present, though something called aymptomatic viral shedding, the giving off of virus when there are no sores present.  What you want is an IgG HSV 1 and 2 antibody test, no IgM.  This can be ordered online or though a regular provider of health care.  That's where I would recommend that you start.  No, not all herpes hurts, so that doesn't rule out herpes infection.
