bacterial infection?

i recently started having a burning sensation when i urinate accompanied with small painless bumps. 1 on the head of my penis and 2 or so on my scrotum. they are absolutely painless and seem more like ingrown hairs that i scratched too much. the one on the head of my penis seems more of something caused from friction. my girlfriend and i have recently been having sex multiple times a day. i have never had any of these things up until a few days after we stopped having sex so much. she had this problem a few years back but was tested for herpes and came back negative. the doctor prescribed acyclovir to her and claimed she had a bacterial infection. ive done the research on acyclovir and know its mainly used for the treatment of herpes but seeing as how she has been tested and the results were negative, i'm wondering if these symptoms i am experiencing are just a cause of a bacterial infection from uncleanliness from the constant sexual activities. i plan on seeing a doctor just in case but i am just a little worried about it. is it possible i may have already contracted it from someone else and am just now seeing the symptoms? it just seems a little odd that she also is experiencing some of the same symptoms she had when she had the said bacterial infection a few years back. she still had the prescription for acyclovir and had it refilled and is taking again because she claims she is having discomfort and soreness. any information on this matter would be appreciated greatly. i am only 18 and the thought of actually having herpes is quite a scare to me.

Odds are that your gf didn't have the proper follow up testing she needed done at the time. since she already started taking acyclovir, it's too late for her to be seen to get a lesion culture and typing done but she should be seen and get properly tested for yeast and bacterial infections. while she is there, she should also have a type specific herpes igg blood test done to cover her bases.

You too need to be seen today or tomorrow and cover things on your end too. If you've never been tested for herpes before, ask for a type specific herpes igg blood test yourself. You'll also need urine testing done and consider some std testing too - especially chlamydia and gonorrhea to cover your bases.

well im not sure if the soreness and such does have a response to it, because she was also prescribed other medications at the time. im thinking that the doctors prescribed her a few possible antibiotics because they weren't quite sure what the definite cause was. but with her tests being negative, it gives me a sort of reassurance that this is something else. it also doesn't help that im a bit of a hypochondriac so the least little sign of anything has pretty much made me worry myself sick. i plan on getting checked as soon as i possibly can, i was just simply looking for some sort of reassurance by posting here so thank you for the insight.

Those negative tests do work in your favor so there is a great chance that its something other than herpes. Its odd that her discomfort and soreness would show some response to Acyclovir if she doesn't have herpes....but regardless, it could be many things affecting you so don't hesistate to see your Dr..

It's very common for doctor's to treat even before testing is done. Obviously that's what happened here - and since she's negative, no need to take the acyclovir.

Sure, it could bacterial, or even just irritation. Folliculitis is extremely common in the pubic hair area.

also, the doctors prescribed her the medicine BEFORE she got her test results back. so im also hoping that they only prescribed it because thats what they thought it was before hand.

thank you, it just seems rather odd as to why she would be taking acyclovir when i know for a fact that her tests results for herpes were negative. she was examined and also did a blood test and all results were negative. do you think it could have just been an extra precaution that she was prescribed the acyclovir? im completely in the dark about all of this so any information or opinions of others is certainly giving me some sort of comfort in all of this.

If they prescribed acylovir to her, then she has herpes. Acylovir is not used to treat bacterial infections. And yes, if you were sexually active prior to her, then you could have contracted it (if you have it) prior to her. Your next step is to see a doctor to have your symptoms properly evaluated. burning when urinating could or could not be herpes. Good luck man.
