can you get herpes from a high five?

i know this is a stupid question and will be the last one but can you get herpes from giving someone who has it a high five?

You didn't even mention oral herpes until now.  

That said - as adults - oral herpes is almost exclusively transmitted thru romantic type kisses. As Jess already said - most adults already have it in fact in the US, statistically 1 out of every 2-3 folks you've ever met in a lifetime have it.  Perhaps you never knew that?

Do you know for sure you don't already have it?  Well over half the population does, and only about 20-40% of those will ever get a cold sore.  It would be a shame to spend so much time worrying about something you probably got as a kid.

Ask your doctor for a type specific IgG herpes blood test.

i know thats not necessarily true with oral herpes which is the one im more concerned about

i have recently learned that someone who i see just about every day has herpes
i want to know as much as i can about it so i can be safe for myself and not unfair to that person

No you cannot ! I think you need to educate yourself rather than living with the believe that people who have Herpes are any different to you or anyone else they are not .....
