Outbreak Question

Grace, I know a small percentage of people won't produce antibodies. I'm wondering, are these people prone to more frequent outbreaks because of these antibodies that weren't produced?

hand washing kills herpes on the hands.  The fats in the soaps disable the outer layer of the virus very easily.

No, you aren't going to get herpes from shaking hands. any website that says folks with cold sores shouldn't shake hands with others isn't a very good one and is selling fear, not accurate information.

You can produce detectable antibodies to one herpes and not the other.

Also, if I shake hands with someone who has a cold sore is there a chance I can get a coldsore on my lips if I touch my hands to my lips? What about herpetic whitlow if there were very noticable cuts on my hands?

There are websites that say those with cold sores should not shake hands with others.

Also, does washing your hands with soap and water kill the herpes virus?

I've heard hand washing only kills some viruses, herpes not being one of them.

If you produce antibodies to one type are you likely to produce them for the other and vice versa or is that all chance too?

Oh.

Do some people not produce antibodies to HSV-1 as well or it is just HSV-2? Or can it be either or?

no, it doesn't work that way.

The antibody response in our body is quite complicated and is far more than just the igg response.  the blood tests we currently have look at a portion of the igg response. Only a very small portion of folks don't test accurately on them.
