cold sores after exposure only, never after!?

As per my Mom she said I've only got a cold sore once in my childhood! and the times I've get them, usually on my lips, but the funny thing is that is ONLY when I get exposed from someone who have them. After that I never get a recurrence ever, again  ONLY when I get exposed to someone who have them! have anyone experienced same? have I developed an immunity to the HSV 1 virus?

I thought the same thing!from what I know once you develop Hsv 1 antibodies another person with same cannot cause it to reactivated in you!? My outbreaks are so few in between timing, that I end up forgetting I have it; and when it does the cold sore outbreaks are usualy very mild and barely noticeable. Thank you for your response, it is greatly appreciated!

This is a very common experience for someone with oral HSV1. About half of people with HSV1 experience very few cold sores in their life.

We are 'exposed' to HSV1 most every day of our lives. What you describe about outbreaks is purely coincidental. Another person cannot induce an outbreak for you.
