It really doesn't sound like herpes to me, but I would be careful about using cortisone on the penis for any extended period of time. I can't really help you more with this situation. You are welcome to post results of your antibody tests here. Until then, I am going to consider this thread closed.

Hi Terri;
About 2 months ago I had a "low risk encounter" with a woman, Via oral sex for maybe 2-3 mins at the most. There was also some mutual masterbation involved for a few seconds. the fallowing few days I had what felt like a UTI (burning on urination) about 12 days after the encounter I had a full work for STIs. everything can back negative. I had the IgM and IgG tes for HSV 1 and 2. Yes I know that was kinda soon after the exposure..they both came back neg. Two months have passed without any signs of the outbreak and I figured I was in the clear.. Just 3-4 days ago I notice reddish/pinkish bumps on the shaft of my penis. no itching, burning, or tingling noted. I had been having protected sex with my new monogamous partner who is clean, but the last time we had sex it was unprotedted and I was somewhat rough, that night and the fallowing night I masturbated at least 3 times a night, and i was very lazy and hadn't showered for those few days and the fallowing day I noticed red bumps on my penis shaft, I wasnt sure what they were buth thought the skin might just be irritated from all the "activities" Ive been doing.. so I have been applying hydrocortisone 1% cream to the area and cleaninng it throughly in the shower.. the fallowing day I noticed an inprovement in the area and now 3-4 days after they have appeared thet are virtually gone.. with one slight red spot that is very hard to see, I can find it only because I know where to look. None of them became ulcerated nor was there any discharge. Looking for info on the net I have come to the conclusion that it was probably irritation/psoriasis and not herpes because of how fast it went away with the cream. what do you think? can herpes lesions come and go with in 4 days? I plan on going back after I finish writing this for another test IgG seeing as it has been just over two months.
Does this sound like herpes to you? of does it sound like my origional impression of it being irritation/psoriasis is accurate?
I do think oral bacteria could be causing you irritation. You have taken a wide spectrum antibiotic already, in fact, many! I believe that you need stop worrying now, consider testing for HSV at some point, just for information on your status for future partners, and move on from this incident.

Terri:
its been 16 days since the encounter, the only thing that remains is some vague irritation at the very tip of my penis feeling it is just within my meatus.
Now I have test neg for chlymidea and gonorrhea. The MD put me on Azithromycin,Suprax, both single doses and Flagyl in case or trich.
On my initial visit to the MD, he had mention that when oral bacteria is exposed to that area that irritation can occur..
1) do you think this could be the case? and if so should I have another urinalysis or is that just a waste of time seeing the other antibiotic I have already taken?
2) if the problem persists should I request a wide spectrum antibiotic?
So you dont know if you have HSV1 orally or genitally.. or have you had an outbreak before? and where was it?
"how long after the symptoms started did you ger tested for HSV 1 and HSV 2?"
- 3-4 days after the symptom started but 5-6 weeks after the risky encounter (unprotected oral sex).
and have you ever been tested befor because I know that like 80% of adults have HSV1 orally.
- never been tested before
Did you get the IgG test or the IgM test?
- I'm sure it's IgG
Both are possible to be true.
Terri
Im sorry again but when you say its possible not to have a "reconizable outbreak" do you mean people just mistake it for something else, or the signs and symptoms are so vague that they dont even notice if they're there or not.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Yes, it is possible not to have a recognized primary outbreak.
Terri
you said it is possible to git HSV and miss it.. I don't understand? Do you mean it is possible to not have a primary outbreak?
Canker sores are not the same as cold sores and are not caused by herpes. Your test indicates that you've never been infected with HSV 1, that's correct. It is possible to get infected and miss it. There will be normal variation in the numeric values associated with these tests, for sure. You are just looking for another above 1.1. You could get a false positive, yes, and if you do get a low positive, you will need to confirm with another test.
Terri
I forgot to add that this contact was 15 days ago.
Im still checking myself frequently but I am nervous that I may have have contracted it but am showing no signs of it..
thank you for your response.
on think I am confused with is the whole coldsore and HSV 1 antibodies. I have never had a "coldsore" on my lip before but i have had chancre sores in my mouth from time to time.. usually after sharing a glass with someone for the first time or kiss a new person for the first time and even when I gab my gums whoile brushing my teeth..
1) Is a chncre sore the same thing as a coldsore ie: the HSV 1 virus?
2) My Hsv 1 unit index read 0.10 and <= 0.90 is negative: no antibody detected. so this means I have never been exposed to the HSV1 virus.. then what were those "chancre sores" Ive gotten before???
3) Is it possible to contract HSV 1 or HSV 2 genitally and no have any signs or symptoms at all... (I know some people can miss them or confuse them for something else..)
4) If I have contracted HSV either 1 or 2, as i get the IgG antibody tests done will I see the numerical value increase from month to month as I am tested?
I will be getting another IgG antibody test in a month and perhaps another month or so after that, unfortunately I also got the IgM antibody test and I am fearful of a false positive coming back and increasing my anxiety over this whole situation.
Questions:
1) Are my signs and symptoms congruent with herpes?
No, I don't believe that they are. Without any skin lesions at all, I do not suspect herpes in this case, and I'm sure you were closely observing for skin abnormalities in this situation, right? When we talk about people missing their first infection, it is not usually in a situation like this where someone is observing carefully for skin changes.
2) At what time frame with out seeing any lesions, blisters, or sores could I rule out herpes? or can someone contract herpes and not ever have a primary outbreak?
usually symptoms show up within 2-10 days. How long ago was this contact? If you had had a herpes antibody test immediately afterward, you would have what we call baseline test results - you would know what your antibody status was at the time of the encounter. It takes at least a couple of weeks and sometimes as long as 4 months to mount an immune response to herpes that is detectable in the antibody test.
3) what do you think my chance of contracting herpes formthis encounter.
I think given the very short time and the type of contact, I think contracting herpes is very unlikely though not impossible. Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip? If yes, then you have HSV 1 already and acquiring it in a new location is extremely unlikely.
4) Is it true that a person can have HSV2 orally but outbreaks and shedding are more infrequent, if at all?
Yes, people can have HSV 2 orally and outbreaks and shedding are very infrequent.
5) what is the likely hood of contracting HSV1 ganitally, and would I have to go on valtrex and be that concerned because from what I understand 70 - 90% od adults have HSV1 orally (and HSV1 genetically has infrequent OBs and shedding is less.
The main risk here, though there is likely little risk, is HSV 1 genitally. If you got that, yes, you could go on Valtrex daily for suppression of the virus.
6) can a male catch trichamonas from recieving oral sex?
Trich species that cause STDs are transmitted from the vagina. The trich species that live in the mouth are not normally the cause of STIs in males, no.

Thanks.
Your symptoms look very similar to what I just had a few days ago, mine lasted for about 5-7 days. Got tested for Chlamydia and Gonoorhea, all negative. HSV2 was negative too. HSV1 was positive. No lesion, sore, or anything looks like herpes outbreak on genitals.
Same potential cause here - unprotected oral sex about 6 weeks ago, and a couple more in the past 2-3 months.
I've been very nervous and concerned too, still don't know what to take of this episode of my life...
Thanks!
