confused about herpes

k11
Hi

about a month ago  i had a tear in my vagina and it was painful, i also had itchy rash around in my inner thighs and buttocks area which use to come and go duing my periods. when i visited my gyno he wanted me to do HSV 1&2 elisa igm and igg test. the igm test was positive for 2.14, igg was negative. my doctor didnt say i have herpes , he said i had a viral infection and priscribed acylovir. week later i came down with a high fever (104) and server sore thorat and was hospitalised, during this tme i had a few blisters on my nose and left ear and also reddish spots on my right hand, my right had was very paiful with a burning feeling.
th blisters healed in afew days and scab came off and the red spots reduced on my hand. the doc at the hospital re ran the hsv tests on my husband and me and referred us to veneralogist.

the second test results were for me
hsv 1& 2 elisa antibody igm - 4.06 positive
hsv 1& 2 elisa antibody igg - 1.23 positive

my husbands resutls -
hsv 1& 2 elisa antibody igm - negative
hsv 1& 2 elisa antibody igg - 1.04 boderline positive

the second doctor said i have herpes , plus i have had a ringworm infection which caused the rash and inflamation, he gave medication which has completely healed the rash.

i'm really confused as different doctors are saying different  infections, do i have herpes? this was the first time i had blisters so is tis my first attack? and have i given herpes to my husband ? we have been married 4 years and my husband has never had any blisters or infections in his genital area. i have on and off had yeast infections

please  explaine the tests results and should i consult another doctor for a thorough examination ?

It's very simple: Request an IgG TYPE SPECIFIC blood test. A HerpeSelect test is commonly used. That is the appropriate testing for herpes.  An IgM test is worthless here, as is a combined IgG.

thank you for your comments , is there any specific tests i should request from my doc to clarify this isssu ?

Also according to all the information i have read so far , if Igg tests are postive  the likely hood of having herpes is high, is this true?

None of the testing either of you have had so far is the right tests to have done. The igm test for herpes is useless and should've never been drawn on either of you ( http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/Confusiion-over-other-IgM-Herpes-posts/show/248394  is a prior post with more info ).  The igg tests you've both had done are non-type specific which are also of no help since they don't seperate hsv1 and hsv2.  You really don't have any answers yet to your herpes status at all :(
