To any MD

I recently had my first oral herpes outbreak as a 34 year old male and suffered fever, tiredness, chills, night sweats, and felt drowsiness all day long.  Went to a doctor and did a blood est for hsv 1 which came out positive.  I also had cold sores on top of my lip and sores on bottom right on my chin which went away after a week.  I am two and a half week into the outbreak and most of the fever and aches are gone but still has tingling sensation on my feet and hands and also noticed a rash breaking out on my forehead and scalp about a week ago.  I heard the fever and rash are the leading symptoms for anyone going through acute hiv symptoms so i had home access HIV test a week ago which came negative.  It has been about a month or more since my last exposure and scared that the hiv antibody has not shown up in my body.  The main question is the tingling sensation on my feet and hand and the rash on my forehead are symptoms of primary herpes outbreak and if not should I get tested again for HIV?  Can Hiv cause a primary herpes outbreak?Thank you for your advise.

If you had a hsv1 igg blood test come back positive just a few days into all this - then this isn't a brand spankin' new hsv1 oral infection - just your first obvious reactivation of a previous hsv1 infection.

The tingling sensation on your hands and feet and rash on forehead means this is probably something besides hsv1.  You should continue to follow up on this with your doctor.

As for hiv - only about 1% of adults in the US has hiv.  Unless you are in a high risk group the chances of having sex with someone with hiv is pretty low.  If you are using condoms regularly - even less chance of contracting hiv from a partner.

Hmmmm, very interesting. What you are going through is NOT due to herpes. I am not saying you don't have HSV1 since most people do but what you have going on here is something else. What have you done that MIGHT have put you at risk for HIV??
