IgG is specific to HSV-1 or HSV-2
IgM can be picked up by other herpes viruses such as chicken pox, EBV (mono the kissing disease), CBV, etc. so you could test positive for a variety of things... esp. since most people have had chicken pox!! :}
Go to the search box here on medhelp and type in herpes igm testing and you'll get tons of hits from HHH over on the std board explaining why the igm is completely worthless and should've never been drawn on you in the first place. Totally disregard the results of it.
If it's been at least 3 months since the last time you had sex you can trust your igg hsv2 result. If it hasn't been that long then you'll need to repeat it later on.
