do i have hsv type 1 or 2?
my first outbreak was in may 2013. the outbreak was severe and was in the genital area. Since that initial outbreak, throughout the first year of living with herpes i got two other vaginal outbreaks and two outbreaks inside my mouth. Since my new partner has oral HSV 1, i need to figure out if i need to protect myself from him and vice versa. since ive had outbreaks in my genitals and inside my mouth, i cannot tell whether it is hsv 1 or 2. can anyone assist???
You need IgG antibody testing type specific for HSV1 and HSV2 to assist the diagnosis.
please note that though the first outbreak was severe, the 4 other outbreaks (both vaginal and oral) have been mild in comparison.
