Got all my tests back, even the Western Blot.

I got a full STD workup done.  I had a type-specific HSV test done as well, I believe it was the ELISA test.  The first time I had it done, it came back in the low positive range, under a 2.  The second time it was at 2 or maybe slightly above, and a week or so later, I had it done a third time with another doctor at it came in at 1.68.  It was negative for type 1 every time.  I've had a limited number of partners, and had sex with only one woman without a condom about 12 years ago.  I've never had a symptom, not even something minor.  I recently had a sample sent to the Univ. of WA to have the Western Blot for HSV done.  It came back negative for both type 1 and type 2.  What would be your diagnosis here?  Even though the 3 previous tests kept coming back in the low positive range, they were all the same kind of test.  What could those tests have been picking up to cause the false positive if the Western Blot is indeed correct, and I am negative?

that is really weired! i had 2 test done (cant b compared since not taken w in 24 hrs of eac other)both were low positives under 2.3 and it going on the end of month three and the begining of month number  4 and i don thave any symptoms. i have never had any std in my life and when they called me i almost passed out! i'm pre med but infectious diseasse was not my major(immunohematology lmfao) but i always wondered why the test shows a lot of false positives like ouurs for example some say certain races indians(from india), africans and spanish decent people already have antibodies that are not std related, herpes vaccines, shingles, chicken pox and vaccines, ebv viral/bacterial,lymes disease (even some vitamin deficiences like vitamin a) etc.. but my thing is how long do you keep testing positive with the same test? (if tha makes sense-will your test ever be negative?or would you always have to use a different/certain test-other than the one that tested/gave postive results) the focus herpes select test is like 70% accurate and when used along w conformation testing(like bio kit rapid assay or western blot) the accuracy shoots up to over 85% but my thing is they know about these trials on accuracy and the fda still dosent change cut off levels or re investigagate etc..on focuses website it says that its over 95% thats a LIE especially with all these low false positive casess. i found at least 15-20 on here and they found out through conformation testinf or years later. doctors arent using the right testing/diagnosing (meanisng using many different tests to make a diagnosis) that is y its spreading so secretly and rapidly! DUGH its actually more prevelant than hiv but when at std clinics you ask for complete std testing herpes is not included (unless you have lesions) but hiv is included and herpes is more prevelant that makes sense NOT. i understand the term prevenative care so y dont insurance companies and doctors? they are trying to kill us and take our monthly premiums hoping we just croak lmfao :) i need some laughter after all my drama w this i jus thank God im going on month number 4 and no symptoms most doctors tell me by now with my  time frame and no symptoms either i dont have it or less than 20% chance i do and i'm asymptomatic but i want labratory evidence! so i have to go to ny because no one in michigan does conformation testing w the bio kit rapid assy or western blot (it would actually b cheaper to go to ny than have the wb done which is over $400) :(

I am in a similar situation....but I know that I am hsv-1 positive (although I've never had a cold sore).

My HSV-2 came back 1.9, so I sent blood to Univ of Washington last week...still waiting.

It's my understanding from reading this website, that low false positives are somewhat common.  Anything under 3.0 should have a confirmatory test.  The Western Blot is considered the "Gold Standard".  I interprete that to mean it's the best, and the results from the Western Blot are your correct results.

You do not have genital herpes.  (this is encouraging to me, and hope to get the same diagnosis soon).

Question to you: How long did it take for you to get your results????
