about half of folks have seroconverted by the 1 month mark. It's not that they aren't reliable - it's that they aren't always useful for telling you what is going on.

Ive never had a cold sore before I understand that I can still have hsv-1 on the lips..so since i dont have any lesions on my genitals that are possible to be tested I will never know if I have hsv-1 on the genitals? If both hsv-1 and hsv-2 both come out negative how reliable are these results based on the 1 month duration..thanx
The blood test really isn't going to help you anyways so the timing doesn't really matter. A blood test only tells you what you have, not where you have it. There's no telling if a hsv1+ result is oral or genital - only a lesion culture of the genitals can help with that part.
just go the journal and you can find it in that issue. I'm never sure which links they will edit out ( usually they edit the entire post actually ). I get some special priveledges here but not enough ;)

Oh and can you paste me the link od the doctors journal it will be greatly appreciated..thanx
thanx so much grace ..your work on this website is amazing...another question its been about a month and a week since the oral sex and I got my blood drawn two days ago..how accurate will my blood test be..I dont know what kind of testing the doctor has sent in for...thanx=]
You can get fungal infections from oral sex ( as well as ngu ). The normal flora of the mouth isn't always so normal in the urogenital area. Dr Handsfield ( from the std expert board ) even wrote a terrific editorial on receiving oral sex and issues in males in the feb 2006 journal of infectious diseases for some interesting reading.
Even if you do have genital herpes - the symptoms you are currently experiencing aren't likely to be due to herpes. Herpes would come and go with clear breaks in between. If you had herpes inside your urethra it wouldn't be described as mild either. Give it another week and if things still aren't greatly improved - return to the urologist for further work up but meanwhile try not to worry too much about this. It really wasn't covered with the best antibiotic and the antibiotic they did chose probably caused the jock itch to get worse but it should get better in time. I also advise cutting back drastically on the inspecting of the penis ritual too - the more you look the more "normal" things you will notice and it will just increase your anxiety.
Hope you get answers and relief soon :)

Ive seen a urologist...he gave me the course of tetracycline but doesnt seem to interested in my situation...hes convinced that its nothing serious but i know that somethings wrong...the second time i met with him he gave me an antifungal treatment and suggested it was something fungal and I asked him if I could get that from oral sex he said no and my session was done...I feel like hes not taking me seriously because my symptoms are mild but if nothing was wrong I wouldnt burn when I urinated for over a month...He said it didnt look like herpes but i got a blood test done and get my results tomorrow...I need some insight
If you got a urinalysis, I'm assuming you saw a provider. What did they tell you the symptoms were caused by? Why are you not following up with them?
