herpes test results

hello, well i have a few questions in regards to a herpes blood test that i took. i have nver showned any herpes symptoms that i recall. However my boyfriend has. (he has never been tested). i went to get tested and my results were as follow:

herpes I/II- IGG       My results 0.96

herpesi/II- IGM       My results 0.85

ISR negative: 0.0-0.9
      doubtful: 0.91-1.09
      positive: > 0 = 1.1
The doctor told me my range falls under the 'doubtful" category to retake the blood exam in 2 weeks. Does this all mean that i might be positive but not active? is there still a chance that my results could be negative???

You should get a type specific igg blood test.  The both of you should.

unfortunately he settled with the diagnosis the infectious doctor gave since i admited that i cheated.
my question is, I should take a more specific hsv igg blood test and wait for those results?

A visual diagnosis is wrong 1/3 of the time even by providers who see herpes all the time.  It should always be confirmed with proper testing. The infectious disease doctor your ex bf saw erred in not also doing a lesion culture of active symptoms.  It's in your ex bf's best interest to pursue further testing for himself also.

you can get retested with the proper testing at any point. no need to wait since the proper testing wasn't done.  your current results don't mean anything at all. the non-specific tests can't tell the difference between hsv1 and hsv2 and even can be falsely positive for just screening for herpes so they shouldn't be used any more at all.

My boyfriend's "first outbreak" was at the beginning of January. He went to an infectologist and she diagnosed him without a blood test. Prescribed aciclovir and his symptoms slowly started fading away. I was the one unfaithful in the relationship approximately a year ago. my last sexual encounter with my boyfriend was i would say January 3 a few days before his outbreak on his genitals. My boyfriend says he has never been unfaithful to me in fact he's really upset at me about this whole thing. we broke up. So due, to that the infectologist recommended we both get herpes tested, and tested for any other STD's. so i did, those were my results for the herpes. Everything else was negative.  I have told him he should get tested as well. I am really confused about this whole thing. The guy whom i was unfaithful with i havn't talked to him since i figured it would be more drama than what we are facing now. We do not have an actual "provider", we are living in a third world country right now.
so should i wait 2 weeks and get re-tested? i mean due this results say anything at all????

certainly you both need to pursue type specific testing.

your provider ordered the wrong testing on you. encourage your provider to review the cdc 2010 herpes guidelines to better learn what testing they should be ordering on their patients.

Your testing was done incorrectly. Both the combo igg and igm testing was a waste of money.  You should be tested with a type specific hsv igg blood test.  Not the combo and never an igm.  Grace will have to look at your results and can give you feedback on that.

Your boyfriend and you should both get a type specific hsv igg blood test.  Your boyfriend having "symptoms" but never been tested should look into that if his last sexual encounter with a partner other than you was 3 or more months ago.

What led you to be tested and how long before the test was your last sexual encounter?
