question about herpes

Hello all:  This is gonna be lengthy so I apologize and ask to bear with me!!!

I am a 29 yo male and am having severe anxiety right now!!  Here's the situation: one morning around 3 am, after a lot of drinking, I had sex with a girl.  It started out without a condom but only for like a minute or two and I realized I should put one on.  Afterwards, I promptly went to the bathroom to pee 3 times, wash my hands and genitals, and went to sleep.

About 3 hours later, I woke up and noticed that I had a minor sore throat but chocked it up to it being cold in the house.  Throughout the day and into the next day, the sore throat got worse and it was only on the left side. A little over 24 hours or so after the encounter I was feeling fatigued and the throat was worse.  I've had strep before and it felt like it.  By end of day 2 after encounter, I felt a little pain in the testes and a penis head "pressure" sorta like a throbbing but only at random times and my lower back was sore.  I chocked that up to the fact that I've been away from home and sleeping on a lot of couches and airbeds for over a week plus I work out and did a lower back routine 3 days prior and sometimes it hurts.  Also, the left side of my neck, with what I'm assuming is my lymph node, was a little swollen but went away in 24 hours.  By this time, I'm so filled with anxiety that I start trolling forums and thinking about everything that I could notice going on with my body.  Also during day 2 and 3, I had a headache that felt more like sinus pressure and diarrhea so I took an Advil Chest Congestion and the headache and general fatigue subsided some while taking this med.

Between day 3 and 4, the general fatigue went away and I felt fine but still had that throbbing in the testes and lower back and the penis head "pressure" I spoke of.  I'm now into day 7 and feel ok, aside from a little diarrhea and fatigue.  I've been so anxious for like 4 days that I haven't been sleeping well or eating like I should.  I am going to go get an sti panel done to see if I caught anything.  I talked to the girl and she said she hasn't been sick or anything and is sti free but I know people can be asymptomatic. Needless to say, I'm freaked out and everytime I read on an sti I start "feeling" the symptoms.  I know that I'm worrying in excess and have read that it can cause your body to make a mountain out of a mole hill and notice things that aren't necessarily there.

My questions are general ones.  Does this sound like HSV-II or am I worrying myself to death?  If it sounds like it could be, how can I prep for an outbreak before it happens?  Does this sound like any other sti's?  BTW, the sore throat is nearly gone.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Grace,
it is day 9 and the penis discomfort is still around.  It seems to be worse when I'm sitting upright in a chair.  It still seems to come and go but 2 days ago it seemed to be around most of the day but yesterday it was only prevalent at times.  At the moment, I am lying on the couch and have that sensation.  I still have no other symptoms.  The testicular throbbing isn't around anymore but this penis sensation I'm experiencing seems to linger on.  I sometimes wake up at night and it is there.  If this were a mind thing, my damn mind must be in overdrive for it to be there upon middle of the night awakenings.  Any thoughts?  Thanks for reading.

your sore throat and other symptoms up top all sound like you contracted an upper respiratory infection of a non-std related nature. I'm sure all the diarrhea and stomach pains are related to whatever non-std related virus you are experiencing :)

I also forgot to mention that during day 2 and 3 I experienced a little stomach pain accompanied by diarrhea that went away by day 4 and 5 time frame.  I don't know if this is the gamechanger but I attributed this to the fatigue and sore throat.

Thanks for the reply.  So you think that the symptoms post encounter are just some kind of coincidence, maybe attributed to some kind of other ailment?  I wouldn't think I could just imagine a sore throat but I can accept that some of the other symptoms can be exasperated by my constant anxiety.  Like today, most of the day I've felt fine but every now and then, like right now, I feel "something" downstairs.

I know that everyone is different, but reading through websites and forums the symptoms seem pretty constant, except for the time from symptoms to actual onset.  The prodrome that is experienced by HSV positive persons is directly before onset, like within that day or the next day?  Or can it come and go for a few days?

I just am extremely worried that's all.  Thanks for taking the time to help me out.  It is really appreciated.  I see that you take time to reply to many posts.  That is really nice!!!

nothing you've mentioned really sounds like any std is going on.

if the symptoms are only present when you are thinking about your genital area, it's all in your head dear.  symptoms from stds are constant.

I also wanted to add that the penis "pressure" and testes throbbing at times seems to only be present when I really dwell on it and start "watching" for it.
