HI, which herpes were you diagnosed with?
hsv 2 :( I'm still dealing with it. It has been a struggle and I'm so embarrassed... I hate even talking about it. I'm still very saddened by it.
Hsv2 is catagorized as a sexually transmitted infection and the risk for contracting would need naked genital to genital rubbing and grinding esp with someone with an open sore.
Whitlow is most always hsv1 not hsv2. Getting hand hsv2 is not common at all.
They never tested me for both, just tested the infected area at the time, which then was down below. I never had mouth sores though, but I know that doesn't mean that I do not have it.
If youve never had mouth sores then you can pretty much rule out getting whitlow as it needs contact with an open lip sore with a sore on the finger. For example nail biteing after touching a open herpes sore. Most hsv2 whitlow is from first time outbreaks when the immune system is not fully active same with hsv1
Oh... Hmmm yeah my first outbreak was in March. I never bite my nails. Nor have I had a cut on my finger either.
thats sounds comforting!

So you do not think that its whitlow?
It does not meet the requirments to have contracted it on your finger at all.
could this be whitlow? it could be but at this point, far too late to confirm that :( since it isn't healed in 3 weeks, time to be seen. I suggest starting with your pcp and if they are stumped, a dermatologist would be next. being on suppressive therapy would make it hard to have gotten an accurate lesion culture initially too unfortunately.
do you need to keep it covered if it is whitlow at this point? no you do not. it's no longer contagious and is just healing skin if this is herpes related.
It scabbed off now and the skin underneath is really pink and very sensitive. Not so much hurting but not a fun sensation. and skin around it is peeling as well
