herpes?

on october 30, i had unprotected vaginal sex with a female.  on november 4, she began experiencing prodromal symptoms (fatigue, low grade fever) and by november 8th or 9th had sores and blisters in an initial breakout.  another partner she had intercourse with somewhere around november  8th/9th has since also broken out with sores and blisters, and they have both confirmed through their doctors that it is herpes.  she believes that the person she contracted it from was a male she was previously dated and was last intimately involved with on or around october 26.

i, meanwhile, have not have any symptoms save for a slight burning sensation that comes and goes on the very tip of my penis for approximately the past 2 days (so beginning what would've been 19-20 days after initial contact).  i don't have any burning sensations while urinating or trouble urinating, nor do i have any red sores or blisters or any other symptoms of herpes, just this off-and-on burning/tingling at the very tip.

i plan on getting an across-the-board std test, but since the incident was only about 3 weeks ago, i know that a blood test at this point may be inconclusive/incorrect.  so, my question is, since i had sex with her prior to her prodromal symptoms/initial breakout, could i have gotten lucky and not contracted it?  or am i more likely just not showing obvious symptoms the way her and her other partner have?

I would recommend that you double check your STD tests, just to be certain, that you were done in June.  Most STD screens do not include herpes, but yours might have.  But most certainly double check, for sure!

Thank you for your response, Terri.

I am assuming that i am not the source because had blood tests done in june of this year for stds, which came back all clear.  i haven't been active with anyone else since.

She has hsv2, but i do not know exactly how she was diagnosed.  just simply that "the doctor confirmed it is herpes."  i will schedule an appointment with my doctor for a baseline hsv as you've recommended.  thank you.

I would recommend that you obtain a baseline HSV IgG antibody test to see which, if either, of the herpes simplex viruses you have at this time.  If you are negative for both or just positive for HSV 1, I would recommend repeating it in about 3 months from now.  However, it is possible that you infected her, not knowing that you have herpes.  The average incubation time from infection to symptoms is 5.5 days.  This could mean you are the source.  The other person could also be the source, but I think you need to rule our your own infection at this time.  90% of those infected don't know that have herpes.  Do you know if she has HSV 1 or HSV 2?  That's an important thing to know.  Also, do you know if she had a baseline antibody test when she was diagnosed with herpes, and exactly how she was diagnosed?  It is certainly possible that if you don't have it now, that you didn't get it from her, yes.  But we need a little more information to start with.
