it might not all be herpes going on which is why continuing to go back and have your symptoms cultured. typing is important because you and partners can't make educated decisions about what precautions to take until you know what type you have. typing herpes infections is part of the cdc's herpes testing recommendations. violating cdc policy by not typing herpes infections is grounds for malpractice - might want to point that out to your provider.
you are still having frequent symptoms while on suppressive therapy. At this point you need to figure out if indeed it is all herpes going on or not. A prior + culture doesn't mean that it's all herpes. If you are indeed still having ob's this often while on suppressive therapy, as confirmed by + lesion cultures, then you need a sample sent off to either quest labs or the U of washington for tk deficient herpes typing done. If it's not all herpes going on, all the herpes antivirals in the world aren't going to help.

thanks for the input. since i have had a positive culture, and have an obvious lesion with each ob, i am pretty confident that hsv is my issue. it's possible i have other things in conjunction with the hsv, but the hsv is my main issue right now. other than the obs, i don't seem to have any yeast or bacterial issues when no ob is present.
am having an ob right now. would the fact that i am on acyclovir make a difference in results of testing? i have had a positive culture test, so isn't that pretty definitive that it is herpes? and does knowing the type (for some reason my drs are resistant to type testing) make much difference at this point, if i am having genital outbreaks? if i know i have hsv outbreaks in the genitals, from the positive culture, isn't abstaining and suppresives the only treatment? the only reason i ask is because i don't have alot of money right now for an outside dr and my hmo dr considers it a done deal, positive culture, script for acyclovir and out the door they send me. can you get a tytpe from the culture test? when i had it done before they told me the culture test was positive and when i asked them for the type they said they don't do that.
The reason Grace asked what testing you've had is because what you have going on very well is not herpes. Just because a person has herpes does not mean everything down yonder IS herpes.
Have you been seen when you are symptomatic, which should be easy if these symptoms occur monthly? Your doctor can test not for just herpes, but for yeast or bacterial infection, both of which can mimic herpes symptoms.
at this point I'd stop daily suppressive therapy and get your next ob cultured and typed. until you know for sure that this is all herpes going on, you can't really get on top of it.

Sad, isn't it? No one seems to have a clue. Is very hard for me to not get definitives but so it goes. I have done some research and seems as tho it is not an uncommon occurence for a woman to have recurrence of ob's once they hit perimenpause and have hormonal fluctuations, vaginal dryness etc. Plus, have been told by drs that your immune system is less strong as you age...who knows. But even tho I have come to accept it, I would like to NOT have an ob every period. I take acyclovir, 400mg 2x daily. Am just very uncomfortable. Have only had the blood tests and the culture. Is there no good news on the hsv front for sufferers? I don't look forward to worsening obs at this stage. Thoughts? Info? Not sure if my HMO will do any more testing since have had the positive culture.
2 years have passed since you last posted and you still don't have any better answers? what testing have you pursued during the last 2 years?
