have you and your wife ever been tested for hiv? if not, then by all means get tested to make sure you don't have it but no reason to test for hiv based on these herpes results.

Ok I will get the specific tests done . I have no symptoms of herpes

Do I need to get HIV test done too because I could have herpes ?

no it doesn't mean that you definitely have at least 1 type of herpes even though it was + .  If you do, the odds are you have hsv1 which is something 1 out of every 2-3 adults has whether they get obvious cold sores or not.  A 1.9 + is very low in general even for the non-specific tests.

The type specific tests have a much higher sensitivity and specificity which means not only are they more likely to pick up on a herpes infection, they are also going to be accurate as far as if it's hsv1 or hsv2 which is very important information to have to decide what to do next.

Type specific tests means what herpes 1 and herpes 2 we need to have both tests to find out what kind ? Even if we have one of the two igg positive results means we will have herpes right

As the herpes simplex 1 and 2 came positive means we have one of the two right or it could be we have non if we get specific test done what do you suggest

as I said originally - you didn't have type specific testing done. it'll need repeated with the proper testing.

was 1.9 the hsv1 result or the hsv2 result or did you only receive that result and no others for herpes?

We got a torch panel , igg and igm ( CMIA) test which included Toxoplasma ,rubella ,cytomegalovirus  and herpes simplex 1and 2

The results were
Cytomegalovirus  128.90 igg range was between 0 to 6 and igm was normal with the range

Herpes simplex 1 and 2  was 1.90 igg and normal range is between 0 to 0.80 the igm was normal

This is her recent reports we got same tests done for her in january both igg and igm were normal

So when she got the latest results I got myself also tested and my igg came positive for both and igm normal

What do you think do we have herpes or not and do we need to get tested for HIV also is there a risk for that too

the torch test is a very old test that really is meant for newborns only.  Many folks still call it a torch test but are ordering a different variety of tests on adults. hard to tell what you had done.

odds are you aren't getting type specific herpes igg testing with whatever testing you are getting from the sounds of things. If you really want more accurate answers, both of you should be sure to get the type specific tests and then post your igg results here and I can better help you - ie hsv1 igg 6.7 and hsv2 igg .34 or whatever they are.

The igm herpes test is a greatly flawed test and we never recommend it being drawn on adults .
