igg results

Hello everyone I was diagnosed with genital hsv 1 about 2 months ago through a culture and blood work. I never really bothered to look at the results though but this is what the blood work states

39.50 high
0.90
0.91
1.09
1.09

What does this even mean?

Yes sorry, I haven't been precise in my reading of your situation.

I'll restate the possibilities shortly, but first tell me what do you know of your partner's negative tests? IgG for HSV1 and HSV2?

And about the type of test he got I'm not 100% sure but I did tell him to be specific and ask for the igg test and he said he would.

Yes it was positive for hsv-1 and I'm sorry I have you some wrong information I wasn't a month after we had sex that I had my outbreak, we had sex on the 16th and around the 20th of April I had started to get symptoms that I've never had before (I remembered because I went on vacation on the 20th and that's when I had the outbreak while on vacation yay meee) so still I'm confused on such high number.

Sorry I may have misread, was the genital swab definitely positive and typed for HSV1?

It is unsettling, I'd prefer to be comprehensive in the thinking. All the possibilities listed above could be the reality, including no genital herpes at all.

This may be academic, what tests did your partner have and what were the results. You must see the IgG figures to have confidence they are negative.

What would a positive hsv 2 igg test look like?

Thanks for your response, but now I'm really scared at this point I tell myself "well at least it's not type 2" both the culture and the blood work state negative for type 2. I've only had sex with one person in almost a year and he got tested recently and it all came back negative.

As for oral herpes I really can't recall ever getting a cold sore, but I definitely had a very painful outbreak late April.

I think you need to pursue the diagnosis further.

If you were infected with herpes just recently, then it would have been your first infection with HSV1. In that case it really would not wait a month to break out. It is 2-10 days with an average of 4 days.

Now to the number. Most negative people have a reading of less that 0.4. Upon infection this rises to a high level. 50% of people test positive, being greater than 1.1 by day 25.

Is there anything wrong with a 39.5 figure, not at all, not abnormal. Can you get a reading that high within a month. This I really doubt! This seem to me like it is more likely an oral HSV1 infection. Have you ever had cold sores around your lips? Even from your youth?

It must be said that HSV2 is more of a possibility. One month as indicated is not enough time for 40-50% of people with a recent infection to produce a positive blood test result.

So overall
- there is something potentially not quite right in terms of timing for a primary genital HSV1 infection and the quick test that produced such a high outcome
- HSV2 is a small possibility and you should repeat the testing at 16 weeks post the sores appearing
- there is a chance of a misdiagnosis for something that is unrelated to genital herpes... how would you be comfortable in this outcome? You'd need to be negative for HSV2 at 16 weeks, plus some memory of oral cold sores or either of your parents has oral cold sores.

Well I had sex with the only guy that I've been with writhing 10 months. We used a condom as always but I did receive oral sex, and a month from our las sexual encounter I got an outbreak I was on vacation when it happened so I didn't see my dr right away, but when I came back I saw her and she said it looked like herpes. The culture test came back positive for hsv 1 and that's what the blood work says. I do think the 0.90 and 1.09 are just the ranges from negative, equivocal and positive but why is the other number so high at a 39.50

Can you be specific here about the exposure, symptoms and timing to tests?

First, what sexual contact did you have in the 2 weeks before the sores appeared? Did this include oral sex?

When did the sores appear and where? How bad was the outbreak?

How soon after the sores appeared did you have the swab and blood test? Was the swab correctly typed or did it come back as positive for HSV?

I think maybe your post is missing some characters in the posting. It looks like the 39.50 is your actual result and the 0.90 and 1.09 explains the ranges for negative, equivocal and positive?

Just confirm that there is a test result that says IgG antibodies (Ab) HSV1 39.50 H
