HSV Concern

Thanks for this outlet, it is great. I had a sexual encounter in late october 201 with protected vaginal sex for about 30 min and brief unprotected oral for less than 1 minute. I broke out it pus filled bumps and a rash about 2 weeks after. Went to dr. Who stated was a non STD rash and then received a yeast infection diagnosis from my derm. I tested for hsv t 7 weeks and that was 3.32 for hsv1 and less than .91 for hsv2. I have always had cold sores. I tested at 10 weeks at 2.53 sand less than.91 and I tested at 15 weeks using immunoblot and ws pos. For hsv1and neg fro hsv2. I have pains in my groin and buttocks and viable lymph bruises, I jut broke out with about 6 pimples on my buttocks that are red and painful, I also have a red line between my scrotum and groin. Should I still be concerned about HSV? I have never seen a lesion on my penis but my scrotum has numerous smll bumps

Many people complain about pain in the saddle area.  This can be due to many things, including disc problems or something similar.  I think a negative test at 17 weeks can be relied upon with confidence.

Terri,

Thank you, last question for me: I still have pains in the groin, buttocks and genitals and a bright red bi-lateral inner groin fold and scrotum rash. Have you seen HSV present that way and what are the chances I have not seroconverted by 17 weeks due to my hsv-1 long standing cold sore status. If I want to see someone local any good contacts in the San Diego area?

I believe that with a negative antibody test at 17 weeks for HSV 2, you can count on that result.

I have hsv-1 as well and it took me almost 2 months to start showing any symptoms when I broke out I had blisters on my face, in between my thighs, and in but buttocks, I neevr had any bumps on by penis and scrotum. After about a year the outbreaks calm down alot. What your experiencing is the initial outbreak. the first outbreak is always sever but ever one after that is light or mild and happens less often time progresses.

Terri, thanks for the response. I have not taken any antivirals and I took another test this last week again positive at 2.75 for HSV-1 and negative for HSV-2' I also received a negative report on fluid from one of the buttocks bumps, so I suppose this is more fungal. The rash that just re-occured is also being cultured. I suppose the fact that I had a skin manifestation that emerged, then left, then reemerged with pains in the groin got me on the HSV track. A series of negative HSV tests up through 17 weeks and a negative swab combined with a likely fungal culture should clear my mind. Do you ever see HSV present as a inner thigh or groin and scrotum rash without lesions? any other thoughts for groin, buttocks pains and lymph bruises?

I'm sorry I wasn't made aware of your new post and that you had to wait!
Usually, herpes doesn't present as pus filled blister right away, they are usually water blisters and usually they would show up sooner than 2 weeks after infection if it was herpes - the average time from infection to blisters with herpes is about 5.5 days, though 2 weeks wouldn't be outrageously long, just unusual.  Did you see the doctor shortly after the blisters showed up?  Where was the rash exactly?  Almost all males have bumps on their scrotums, wouldn't worry about that.  Your testing is negative and you waited 15 weeks which is great, should be plenty of time to wait.  Did you take any herpes medicine?

The line between the scrotum and groin is also very common, likely a little fungal thing.

I think you should feel reassured about herpes, but should certainly see someone if it comes back again.
