information please

My partner and I have been together for a year now. The ex wife has told him she has HSV 2.  He has not noticed any kind of outbreak and has tested negative on a complete STD panel.  I am still awaiting my blood test results.  I haven't had any outward signs of an outbreak as well.  I was with my previous partner for over 3 years and neither of us showed any signs or symptoms the whole time.  I've had atypical pap smears which my doctor has me coming in every four months for a checkup.  Not showing signs inside or out of recognizable herpes lesions. Am I correct in saying that when women get herpes, it is much more likely to present itself in the form of a outbreak? Secondly, from what I've read, it is more common to have contracted the virus from male to female? Third, and here is the big one, if it came from me, wouldn't one of us over the last year shown SOME sign of the virus? As much as I hate to admit it, I'm no spring chicken either! I'm beginning to think there is something else going on here!

Interesting case.  Unless your partner is sharing time with you and his ex-wife her having HSV-2 didn't come from you.  Most STD panels don't include a type specific igg blood test for HSV on them.  You might want to have your partner review his results and ensure he was tested properly and not with an IgM test.

Everyone who gets HSV has an initial outbreak.  Though it can be mild and sometimes ingored for something else that is not always the case.  So not having symptoms sometimes isn't the best way of knowing because some people don't know the symptoms.

Yes it is more common for a male to transmit to a female than a female to male.

well obviously she didn't get hsv2 from him then if she really has it if he had igg herpes testing done and was negative for hsv2.

grace,
he was tested for all std's and type specific hsv. He is not sure of the actual name of the test whether igg or igm. He has read her report and it states that the outbreak severity seems to be primary. Can they be sure of a recent exposure?  Nothing about this makes a whole lot of sense.
My testing was done by Quest and it was Herpeselect. Both Igg and Igm. so I'm feeling fairly confident about the acuracy. (emphasis on fairly)... It is hard to stay clinical in my responses here.  Somewhere in this mix is a mistake.

just be sure that your partner has actually been tested properly for herpes. It's  not a part of routine std testing so he should specifically ask to be sure and make sure it was type specific igg testing.

if she had other partners prior to him then she had hsv2 before him ( or contracted it since she's been with him ).

Hi,
Thanks for responding so quickly.  My test results came in today and they are negative.  Evidently, according to my doctor, I had the latest in testing technology.  So I am thankful.  So the mystery remains how she is positive HSV 2.  My guess here is that it is all just a calculated attempt to "get back" at her ex husband and there is no positive test results. I don't know, but HSV 2 isn't a joke and should'nt be used as a means to an end!! Anyway, I have learned quite a lot about this disease. Probably more than I ever wanted!  Again thanks for your informative and timely response.
with regards,
O'Silvia
