initial exposure/how soon transmittable

possible exposure and the unprotected sex 2 days later. Is it possible to have transmitted it? No symptoms for me at all other than a high fever one night 4 days later. No sores, etc and its been 2 weeks.

you are contagious within 24-48 hours of being infected. it's not a 6 day incubation period before you can pass it on to a partner.

yes i understand about no symptoms. My question is, is it likely to be shedding within 24 hrs of initial exposure? I found a post elsewhere from a nurse wh claims herpes has an inubation period of around 6 days. Is that true?   Thanks

Shedding is when you have no symptoms.  You are only shedding for HSV-1 orally 18% of days in a year.

You should review the information ASHA website for HSV.

no, you do not always have obvious symptoms of infection. since you have hsv1 already, odds are you wouldn't have a "classic" initial ob anyways.

correct. Just wondering. I have hsv1 pretty badly. Use abreva when it happens. How can I be infectious? I would have to be shedding right? And if I am shedding wouldnt I have tingling etc, followed by a sore?  Possible, and probable are two vastly different things. I guess its possible, but seems to me highly improbable but what do I know.

Yes, if you were infected, you could also be infectious to others in 2 days.  However, I'm assuming, with your first exposure, you don't know if the person is even HSV +, correct?

not asking if it will occur in me, but if I can transmit it so soon

Yes, herpes both primary HSV-1 and HSV-2 can occur as early as TWO days after exposure until day 20 usually.

If you do not have any symptoms of herpes such as blisters, lesions on your penis by the end of 21 days after first exposure, chances are good that you do not have it.

But you should get tested through a IgG blood test in 3 months time from first exposure to confirm. This would be a definite diagnosis.
