is it herpes???

Hi,

So heres my situation. 3 weeks ago i had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman who's sexual history I do not know. Anyway I actually have a condition called lichen planus which is a red skin rash that appears on the end of my penis  but i haven't had a bad occurrence in a few years. 2 days after my sexual encounter I noticed my condition flaring up and I began to feel some pain. It was definitely the red bumps of my lichen planus and not a blister. After about 3 days my scrotum began itching and hasn't stopped since. I also have a little pain here and there sort of a dull ache. Anyway i went to the dermatologist and she told me it was lichen planus giving me a steroid cream. However, my concern is the itchy scrotum which also tingles from time to time. it isn't in a specific location but rather the whole scrotum. I know my doctor has told me visually everything is ok but I still have a huge amount of anxiety right now fearing it could be herpes reading that blisters don't always occur. I know ill have to wait for a few more weeks before I can take a blood test to see. In the mean time i was wondering if anyone had any info about this itchy/tingly scrotum? Would i still be experiencing itching 3 weeks after the encounter if it was herpes?
any feedback would be helpful. thank you

itching of the scrotum is typically a fungal infection, not herpes. doubtful your lichens would be causing the itching there.

topical steroids typically make herpes lesions worse. since you haven't had a worsening of symptoms, odds are this really was your lichens acting up and not herpes.

since you had unprotected sex, you can follow up with full std testing at the proper times. gonorrhea and chlamydia anytime after 1 week post encounter. syphilis after 6 weeks. herpes, hiv and hepatitis after 3 months.

we recommend protected sexual contact because it works. it saves you worrying, saves you money from frequent testing as well as protects you against std's.  Best in the future, to only have protected sexual contact unless it's a long term monogamous partner whose status you are aware of.

Hi grace,

Thank you very much for getting back to me. i usually don't practice unsafe sex and after this whole ordeal let me assure you I never will again. If it is fungal do you know anything that could help over the weekend while I wait for my doctors appointment next week?
Thank you!
