is my family at risk?

Hi,
I recently found out I have HSV 2.  Although I have never had any noticable outbreaks, my best guess is that I was infected 2 years ago.  Could my family be at risk?  I lived with my sister and my young neice for a while and my neice was always very close to me, sitting on my lap, giving me kisses, all the usual kid games...could I have infected her when I didn't know I had the virus?  What if I wasn't always super careful? I am extremely worried that I am or have been a danger to those I love.

if my igG is low, how long should I wait to re-test? Would taking Valtrex make a difference on my next test....should I not take any anti viral until I re-test?

Wow. Absoluely follow up with this. Your doctor is extremely undereducated about herpes and it's testing. Listen to grace about follow up testing. Please encourage your provider to read the most recent CDC guidelines about herpes and it's testing.

thanks for your response. From doing some reading, I am not sure of my diagnosis. My doctor told me over the phone that my IgG was 2.3...low right? He also ordered an IgM which I am finding out is useless. Also, I am not sure that he even did a type specific test since he told me over the phone that unless I have ever had a cold sore it is probably genital herpes. I am waiting to go to the office next week to get my paper work to see with my own eyes...I am having a lot of doubt in the Dr. I saw and about what to do next to confirm my diagnosis.

genital herpes is only a risk to folks you are having naked, intimate contact with. we never have that sort of contact with our children or anyone who is not a lover.

keep asking questions!
