Intermittent itching

Hello,

I have had a brief sexual encounter with a guy. No oral sex, protected anal sex. He rubbed his penis against mine for 30 seconds or so using his hand.

After 10 weeks I got tested by Labcorp and I was negative for both HSV1 and HSV2. After 6 months I had one more test (got tested just to be sure). I was tested positive for HSV1 (2.1) and negative for HSV2. I am a healthy individual and take no medication.

Since 3 days, I feel itching in the tip of the penis. It's not continuous. I felt so Sat morning, then Sunday evening, and then Monday evening. I applied some anti-fungal cream every time and I feel relieved temporarily. It comes back after 10-12 hours!

Is this Herpes? Also since the value is 2.1, would you recommend a re-test?

It's possible, since it's hard to say whether the antibiotic had any effect, or whether the burning went away by itself. The doctor should have swabbed the dot. There really isn't enough information in your report to say whether or not it's herpes, and I don't believe guessing is responsible on a forum. If you see fresh symptoms, have it swabbed for a PCR DNA test.

So, after a couple of days of itching, I started feeling burning sensation. I saw a very small single white dot on the glans. I went and showed it to a doctor and she gave me antibiotic. Now, after 2 doses, the burning is gone. But I have developed flu like symptoms. The dot has not increased in size. Is this herpes?

Wait 16 weeks past exposure (per both Terri Warren and Anna Wald, two of our best researchers), it can take that long for the blood tests to return an accurate positive. Then at that point, I highly recommend the Western Blot - it's the go-to after confusing test results. The regularly used IgG - the HerpeSelect ELISA has been found to have issues. It sometimes mistakes HSV-2 as HSV-1, and sometimes misses HSV-1 altogether. It also returns false positives, though after 6 months this is highly unlikely.

Have you kissed anyone in the period between the first and second tests? This test result would seem to indicate a new-ish infection.

12 weeks is the number but 10 is a great indicator.

HI, any number below 3 would need retesting as fall into the false positive range. Since your penis was covered with the anal, the tip irritation would not be related to the act. Do be aware that him rubbing his penis against yours does put you at risk for contracting herpes.
