pain after sex

I was diagnosed with hsv type 2 in february. i haven't had an outbreak since then. ever since then having sex with my boyfriend hasn't been the same. at first, i wasn't able to have sex with him at all but over time the pain went away, but it still hurts a little after a few strokes and my vulva will get swollen and I'll get little cuts (i think tears) right under it. they have never caused an outbreak and it goes away after a few days. i was told to try more lubrication but that didn't seem to work. i asked my doctor for any other infections and she said there was nothing there. i also read that it just goes away within time but i still think there is a reason for it. i just want to know if there is anything i could do to reduce the pain during sex and the vulva pain afterwards since it is affecting my sex life.
