HSV or not?

Hello.  I know this topic has been discussed in several forums but each case has some variation it seems.  My current BF denies any history of herpes.  At the end of May I developed a burning, tingling sensation all along the left side of my labia, almost into the hair line.  It is itchy at times.  It feels "prickly" at times, burns more with movement and after being in the sun.  I also have a very small reddened area on the inside of my labia, also on the left side.  No lesions, no difficulty urinating, no enlarged inguinal lymph nodes.  At the first sign, I mentioned it to my PC doctor and she said she could'nt see any lesions and said it wasn't herpes.  It went away for a couple of weeks and came back.  I then went to Planned Parenthood. Still not the typical appearance of herpes they said.  I was told it would be extremely painful.  Again, it was burning more than anything.  No lesions.  By this time, at least a month has passed since any intercourse.  After continued irritation I finally went to the OBGYN that I see (difficult to get an appointment).  I asked her to test me for it.  Of course she did IgM and IgG.  This was 10 weeks after my last sexual encounter with my BF.  The results showed:
HSV 1/2 IgM - 1.96
HSV 1/2 IgG - 0.42
As a teen/young adult I know I had coldsores.
My doctor told me that based on these results, and given the signs and symptonms, that I have herpes.  She prescribed Acyclovir, which I am now taking, to see if the burning goes away.  So far, after two doses, it doesn't seem to have taken the burning away.  She told me not to bother taking another IgG since the IgM suggests a recent HSV infection.
What do you think?  Should I retest?  Do you think after 10 weeks my body would have produced the antibodies against HSV, especially since I keep having these "symtoms"?

Thanks for you help and expert advice.

10 weeks is probably enough time.  We recommend that people wait 4 months before having a final test, but that one is up to you.

It was done at the same time as the others I listed;10 weeks after intercourse.

Your other test results?  How far after the first ones did you have this one done

Hi Terri,
My other test results: IgG HSV 1 - 0.34,  IgG HSV 2 - 0.21.
Having taken the Acyclovir, there was not much difference in the symptoms, so I'm thinking this is something else.  Interestingly, it seems to get worse with heat i.e. shower, sunlight, laptop.  Any ideas?

Based on this, should I assume I am negative for genital herpes and avoid the cost of another IgG test?

Thanks for your help.

I don't agree at all with your Drs. interpretation.  There is nothing whatsover you can  determine from this test.  A combined 1/2 test can't help you sort out a cold sore from genital herpes.  You need a type specific IgG test - forget the IgM also, it has no meaning that someone can count upon  Can you get a separate HSV 1 and HSV 2 test done?   Once you've had cold sores on your lip, if that's what you had, you would be highly unlikely to get the same virus at a new location on your body.
