recurrence?

Terri,

I wrote on this form about 6 weeks ago regarding what I thought could be a herpes primary outbreak.  You told me it didn't sound like it was but there was a possibility.  Now I have what I think could be a recurrence and I wanted to know your opinion.  I haven't seen any rashes or blisters or redness (I have been looking) but I did notice what looked like a tear in the skin at the base of penis.  This is not where I felt the tingling last time which was at the head of my penis.  ( In my previous post I stated that I had no visible rashes, sores, blisters then).  From the time the tear occurred it completely healed in 4 days without any pain, itchiness or tingling.  Now I get back to the US in a few weeks and will get tested but does this sound like a herpes recurrence?  Hoping to hear something back.

Thanks

I think you should still pursue testing when you return.

Terri,

Last comment, thanks again but just to be clear it didn't heal in one day but scabed over in one day.  It was another 3 days before the scab came off.  Regardless thanks again for your help.

Terri,

Thanks again for all of your help, it has been good to just get some sort of feedback.  I'll go forward with the tests when I return.  Thank you again.

Normally, herpes lesions do not go away within one day.

Terri,

Thank you for your comment unfortunately I can't get a swab done of the tear as I said it has completely healed and it actually scabbed over completely within less than a day.  Not sure if that can help you in you diagnosis, but thank you again.

A tear in the skin at the base of the penis is not a normal occurence, and I can see why you are concerned.  From my vantage point, it isn't possible to say what might be causing this, but I do think it will be good for you to be tested by IgG antibody test when you return to the US.  I wish I could be more reassuring or at least more helpful, but when people report such symptoms, it just isn't possible to say what might be going on.  Any break in the genital skin that is not normal for you should be evaluated.  Are you in  a place where you could have swab testing done of the tear?
