test results

my son was tested 2 1/2 months ago for Herpes.  he had some areas on his penius but he also had a Staff infection on his legs which he has be prone to for at least 4 years.  the doctor tested him type specific for herpes and gave him Batrim for his staff which he said was for a urinary track infection.  but i knew the medicine would clear the staff.  he also percribed Valtrex but this was almost 6 days after he noticed some area of break out.  within 3 days the bactrim has already started healing the infection on his penius.  i am read that if you do not treat the herpes with Valtex within 72 hours of onset that it will not help.

my question is the test results came back negative so we retested again and it came back for HSV2 at the level of 2.4.  i have also read that staff can show up anywhere even on the private areas.  should i have him retested again in 4 months just to make sure that he is positive for sure or am i grasping at straws....

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/Confusing-Igg-Test-Results/show/771141  is a good post by HHH on the low positives and why they need confirmed with further testing. since he has a history of staph skin infections it's a good idea for him to pursue further testing to see if he really does have hsv2 or not.

Have they tested him for MRSA?

thanks so much for the reply.  i thought that the type specific was the best test for this type of condition.  what is the difference between the two?  i really hate waiting on another outbreak to retest, is not 3 to 4 months okay to find out.  wouldn't the results show more after this amount of time.  i apologize for the fact that i know nothing about this condition and now i am really scared for him and want to make sure this is a true reading and if there is a chance it is wrong i will gladly have him retested.

also, can you explain the 2.4 compared to some of the counts i have seen.  is there a chance of a falve posititve?  still praying....

A hsv2 igg of 2.4 is a low positive and needs confirmed with additional testing. His options are, wait and repeat his blood test again in a couple of months. Wait until he gets a return of genital symptoms and be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a repeat lesion culture and typing, preferably pcr testing of the lesion.  His other option is to have his provider order a herpes western blot blood test to confirm his status.

If he has a regular partner, they too should get tested for herpes to see what their status is.
