Herpes re-test

I was hoping someone could get back to me on the time frame you should get retested if you had potential symptoms of herpes, but the test results were negative.  Planned Parenthood recommended 6 weeks as by then they said a newer infection would show up on the test results.  Grace seems to be very active in the Herpes forums so Grace if you could respond that would be great.  Any other insight from other individuals would be appreciated as well.  Thanks.

It's not something worth worrying too much about. there is only so much you can do and you've been covering your bases from the sounds of things.

I just read your recent post about HerpesSelect tests...should I be concerned about your comment stating the this test can miss HSV 1 infections about every 1 in 10?  Thanks for all of your help.

I wouldn't bother retesting at all at this point. My recommendation of 3-4 months was if you had just recently had sex and then had symptoms.  Testing negative 3 months past symptoms is long enough to wait.

Grace,

The test utilized was a HerpesSelect test...I tested negative 13 weeks ago from inital symptoms and just tested again about a week ago and received the results today.  Negative again on HSV 1 and 2.  I've read that it can take up to 16 weeks (4 months) for a test to become positive.  I did have potential symtoms and a Planned Parenthood doctor said she was "not convinced" it was Herpes.  She told me to come back in 6 weeks to get retested if negative.  I was negative and waited 12 weeks from previous test and 13 weeks from initial symptoms before being retested.  I want to put this behind me.  Should I feel 100% comfortable with the negative test results after 13 weeks or should I restest one more time in 3 weeks to be certain?

Thanks Grace.

You should wait to repeat a blood test in 3-4 months depending on what test they use. ( consult my latest journal entry here on medhelp for more info on the blood tests as well as additional resources for more info on the herpes blood tests ).
