treatment, recurrence

I'm a female who has been having some vague rash like genital 'outbreaks' one week a month for the past four months.  My fourth 'outbreak' just started today.  Since now it's a pattern, I went in to get a culture for HSV1 (my boyfriend tested positive but hasn't noticed outbreaks).  The clinician said it didn't look like herpes, but that "you never know".

In anticipation of my results, I looked up pricing for Valtrex and it is amazingly expensive!  Are there any other less expensive treatment options?

Will my outbreaks decrease (and cease) over time?  I hear this can happen, but how often does this occur? I can't deal with this once a month anymore!

Is there anything else I can do to help prevent outbreaks, herbal remedies, etc?

Thanks Grace!  I want to wait until I get my herpes result next week.  I'm pretty terrified that I have it.  If by some miracle I'm negative, I'll pursue the other options.

such a shame that they didn't do a proper test for vaginitis on you. takes only a few minutes of their time.

continue to follow up on this. insist that they do proper testing the next time.

They just did a looksee.  The clinician at planned parenthood said that if it was irritation or something it would have looked more uniform.  The outbreak usually lasts about 3-5 days. The redness usually lasts 1-2.

did they properly test you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally or just do a looksee and decide it wasn't vaginitis?

this could even be a reaction to a product you use during your period. even if it's one you've been using for years, they constantly change their ingredients.

This is always about 1 week after my period.  I'm on oral contraceptives and am not sure if that makes a difference.  The doctor did not seem to think it was a yeast or bacterial infection.

odds are this isn't hsv1 genitally. it tends not to reoccur this often.

have you also been tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally? also is this starting before or after your period?
