saliva is a poor lubricant for sex/masturbation. it also carries what are normal bacteria from the mouth to the genital area which can cause issues. always use a good sex lube - not spit!
have you been seen for your current symptoms?
are you going to seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing to know your status in general?
Hi Grace,
yes the STD test did not cover herpes.
The symptoms started soon after the December contact. I have tingling and cutting feeling on my tongue now and my lips are dry and tingling.
I have had sex since, but not with the December person. I have been careful not to spread orally, so i refrained from oral sex.
I used saliva on my penis and i have a mild tingle on the top, but no sores.
i am concerned that i could have self infected.
I don't want to spread genital, if i have it.
Cheers,
J
oral symptoms would be from either kissing someone or performing oral sex on them. some viruses that can cause mouth symptoms are also transmitted from merely breathing within 3 feet of someone too. I wouldn't think your oral symptoms were std related.
when you had your std testing done, odds are herpes testing wasn't included. you'll need to check to see if it was or not.
so you just now got all these symptoms recently and are wondering if the brief encounter in december was the cause? have you had any sexual contact since then?
no std would cause your hands to be numb.
Thanks for your response.
No very little kissing.
I haven't been tested for herpes before. Because I felt physically awful afterwards I went and got a full STI test, which were all clear.
I have a distant recollection of having a cold sore when I was young and I also think I had shingles 20 years ago. But this is distant memory!
I currently have a cutting tingling on my tongue and receding numbness around my lips.
Two of the blister sites are raised. On the side of my tongue and top lip. The back of my hands are numb, but not as bad.
I don't feel like going to my GP and need to go to another provider.
Thanks
J
was there kissing involved with the encounter in question?
have you ever been tested for herpes before this? ever get cold sores previously?
saliva in general is a poor way to transmit herpes. not likely at this point you'd contract hsv1 genitally anyways if you actually have it orally. in general, we never recommend using saliva for a lube. it increases your risk of yeast infections as well as it just isn't a good lube in general. a good sex lube for masturbation is always better.
