waiting for results... does it sound like herpes?

I'm dating a man with known herpes infection.  I knew the risks and I continued seeing him.

Saturday we went to have sex and I had a terrible strange odor from my vagina.  next day I ended up with an itchy red lacy rash around my vulva and anus.  Put some lotrimin on it since it looked like a yeast infection.  that seemed to clear up the itchy red rash, but I started having a lot of burning pain around my vulva and it felt swollen.  then I got a sore on my labia, just one that looked like an ingrown hair (I had shaved a few days before and had some ingrown hairs) so I popped it - which was weird because it didn't pop like an ingrown hair and there was no hair and it just bled and bled and bled.  It hurt like the dickens before I tried to pop it and then hurt even more after that, like it's a shooting burning constant pain.  I am also having peeing issues now it is harder to pee and it burns when I pee.

So, I had made an appointment at the gyno when the odor started, and was really anxious to go by the time the sore came up... told her my history and she said without me prompting "have you been exposed to herpes"  and I have to say I have.  Then she goes to see the sore and couldn't even find it... it's that small.  IT isn't an ulcer like a typical herpes sore, but it also had been "popped" and was all scabby, small though it was.  She knocked the scab off and took a culture and still kept saying that it was really an atypical outbreak if it was indeed herpes.  She put me on an antibiotic in case it was a UTI/vag infection after all with the odor and pain while peeing.

Now, the next day, I come up with a really really really yucky sore throat that while it looks like strep came up neg on a quick strep test.  I'm achy and sore and just lethargic - I can barely stay awake.  Dr puts me on z-pak because my tonsils are so covered in pus and sores even tho the quick strep came back neg.  I still have burning/tingling in my labia and the sore is still there and is still painful.  The whole area down there is painful and tender and slightly swollen.

I'm obviously okay with getting the disease since I knowingly put myself at risk... I just figured I would have years of relationship with him before I got it!

This isn't the first time I've had the whole odor/red rash thing, but it's the first time I've had a sore.

I'd call and see if they found bv or a yeast infection too. those results should come back sooner than the herpes testing.

that does further complicate it a lot emotionally :(

when will all your test results be back?

DR put me on cipro - I am on a lot of other meds that restrict which antibiotics I can go on.  I am also on z-pak for sore throat that is poss strep.

It's complicated more so by the fact that he didn't tell me for almost 6 months that he was hsv+.  I was of course very angry and we went through a lot at that point to decide if we would stay together or not... needless to say I'm angriest that he not only didn't tell me but did nothing to prevent me from getting it.  had he not had an outbreak I don't know that he would have told me then.  Luckily I had been tested for it along with a standard STI panel before we started dating so i know I was clearly negative before and know that anything else is probably a positive.

where he gets lesions is irrelevant actually.  the virus sheds from the entire anogenital area periodically.  condoms and suppressive therapy from the gitgo would've gotten your risk down to 2-3%/year.

the strange odor you mention very well  might've been bv which increases your risk of contracting hsv2 :(  what antibiotics did the provider put you on?

let us know how your test results are when you get them back.

he is only recently on suppressive therapy, we do not use condoms.  His outbreak isn't covered by condoms at all.   He had an outbreak about three weeks ago and I then asked him to go on suppressive therapy which he did.  I was tested about 6 months ago and it was negative.  She did swab for yeast and bacterial infections, but I've had both and this is nothing like that really.  She did swab cervix for herpes but there were no sores on it at all.  I did another blood test (at her suggestion) even though I think it's probably too soon to think it's going to come back positive.

everything down there is sore and swollen.  sore keeps bleeding/pus but not ulcerated.

when you were seen , did they test you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too?

were you tested for herpes prior to this partner to know your status?

if the lesion was scabbed, it was probably too late for a lesion culture :(  Did she by chance also swab your cervix to see if you were shedding from there too?

is your partner on daily suppressive therapy? do you use condoms?
