waiting for results... in the mean time...

Let me start off by saying that I am a transgender male (FTM) who has female genitals because I have not yet had surgery there. I have sex with other men. One day I experienced a sore that hurt real bad to the touch it came out of nowhere and i dont remember having ANY symptoms up to the sore appearing. This sore lasted about 8 or 9 days. Then it was just gone. I was alarmed simply because I had never experienced that before. well about 4 weeks later I got another very similar sore in a completely different spot, again no symptoms of any kind leading up to the appearance of said sore. I FREAKED OUT this time and went to the clinic the nurse took a culture, visually diagnosed me with HSV2 (did all other types of std testing as well) SO naturally I was devastated. I wanted faster results then my culture was going to come back So i went to a lab and had a herpeselect test done and got my results in 24 hours. I tested >5 for HSV1 (I already knew I would test pos for that) and my HSV2 was 3.0H. I just about died when I read that. So I thought I was doing the right thing by telling past partners (not sure how far back I should've gone) I told 4 (some went waaay back) people 3 tested 3 came back neg. (thank goodness)
I read here that a lot of times people with a high HSV1 # will show a low pos HSV2 # and still come back Neg on a WB. So I spent a few days trying to figure out how to obtain a WB test Finally got it done thru my Urgent care and am currently waiting on the results.
in the mean time, my culture came back Neg. They had even tried to "grow" it, and had no such luck.
the last partner I had sex with "CLAIMS" he was tested before and after me, and that he was Neg. HOWEVER im finding this to be shady as he hasnt been very forthcoming to me at all (he cheated on his GF and is not talking to me now) . I believe the other 3 people that they really did test and came back neg. Also had no symptoms up to the onset of the sore/s and they never crusted over and fell off or anything. they were just sores that hurt and went away.

So is it possible that with my very high HSV1 # My low pos HSV2, my neg culture and all but one of my most recent partners with Neg results that  MY herpeselect test was just wrong?

This has been a very difficult 3 weeks of my life. I get that millions of people have herpes and that life goes on and its not the end of the world and ETC ETC... But I am tellling this from my personal feelings THIS SUCKS!

Not knowing is worse then when I originally thought I was infected with HSV2. Not knowing is harder mentally. My Western Blot results should be in on Thursday.

really, no reason for lysine. check with your GI doc or dietician about the safety of supplementing with it too.

well chances are since I am on a restricted diet (lap-band) I am probably NOT getting enough in my diet and so it may be a good idea to just keep taking them! (i take 6 500mg pills a day)

5 days rocks! that is the best news I have heard so far and that generics are just as good at the cost savings. *whew* i feel really sorry for anyone who has to take these meds without insurance :(  so unfair!

Thanks again for answering my questions. Its good to have answers!

only takes 5 days of daily suppressive therapy until it's working properly :)

yes, generics are just as good.

lysine doesn't do anything for herpes. you are already getting more than enough of it in your diet and no need to supplement with it.

ok so how long is a GOOD amount of time to be on suppressive therapy BEFORE deciding to have sex with a neg partner? My bf has decided to stay with me (thankfully) but we want to make sure we do EVERYTHING we can to keep him the safest as possible. I know all the rules, (and trust me even if its not a herpes things if something is going on down there that I even remotely question - its not worth putting him at a greater risk)  But should I be on valtrex (or equivalent for days months weeks years...  before we get intimate again?) that's what I really need to know.  AND further more. are the generics JUST as good (we are talking 20.00 for generic 90 supply with my insurance vs 300.00 90 day supply for Valtrex)
BUT if the valtrex has a better track record, id rather pay the $$ to keep him safer.  I even spent about 5 hours researching condoms to make sure I buy ones that longer then normal for more coverage, (most condoms are only 7 inches in length which normally would fine since *usually* the protection is needed at the other end so being full coverage isnt of most peoples immediate concern (tho it should be) I think most people just buy the most attractive packaging and have no idea what they are actually buying.
anyway. so recap,  - how long should I take suppressive therapy before having sex again with my Neg partner  and
Is the generic of valtrex equal to valtrex or is the name brand actually better?

Ive also been taking lysine.

any other tips that we can do to make this safer for him (besides all the ones we know about) are there extra measures he can take to help keep him safer ?

thanks

keep asking questions :)    It's what we are here for!!

Indeed no one ever wants to hear that they have hsv2, but once you know you have it, you can take precautions to keep the risk to a partner down low.  with daily suppressive therapy, avoiding sex when you have obvious genital symptoms and condom use, the overall average risk to a male partner is 1%/year.

When you go through the rest of your surgery, make sure you are on daily suppressive therapy to reduce recurrences. any "trauma" to the genital area can trigger recurrences and you don't want to have to deal with any more genital pain than you have to while waiting for everything down yonder to heal.

well after a long 3 week wait. it (my wb) came back positive. I'm devastated. Not sure where I got it from, but I guess that doesnt matter at this point. Just what I do in my future does. I held out hope that I would be one of those with a low pos that turns out neg, but I was not.  What a terrible way to end the year.
Good luck to everyone else who is patiently (or not so much) waiting on results. I wish u all the very best of luck that your results come out just fine.

Yes It is NOT the end of the world, and yes Ill make it thru it(and so will you), but it certainly is a very very hard pill to swallow.

you really needed to wait until 4 months after the last time you had sex.

if the test results are negative or not clear, you'll need to repeat your testing.

I know it's hard but really waiting for your WB results is the only thing to do at this point. It's the best way to confirm your low positive hsv2 igg since your lesion culture was negative.

How long prior to the WB had you last had sex with your last partner?
