Need help

I was diagnosed with genital HSV1 about 2 months ago after what i thought was recurring yeast infections. Think I could have contracted it over 20 years ago and am wondering if hormones could be causing me to have outbreaks? I am 45. I  had strep throat immediately after being diagnosed, thought I had it again 2 weeks ago but was not. Now some small genital sores and burning along with cold sore on lip. I am taking Lysine and not on any suppressive meds yet. Why are the outbreaks continuous? Any help would be appreciated.

you would both need a type specific herpes igg blood test done.  if it isn't type specific, it was a waste of time and money. encourage your providers to update their herpes testing info so that they aren't wasting their patients time and money :(

Thank you for your help! Can you suggest a blood test? My husband went and thought he was getting 2 tests and when he went back for results they told him he had herpes but the test couldnt differentiate between type 1 and 2.

this recurrence will be well on the way to healing before you start valtrex at this point. More important to confirm what is going on than to start herpes antivirals.

cover your bases since you already have hsv1 orally and with the frequency of your symptoms.

I am positive she told me hsv 1. Wouldnt hsv2 have shown up on lesion culture? or both?

So get checked for bacterial and yeast and a blood test to check for hsv 1 and 2? What type of blood test or tests should I ask for? And if it does come back as both would you suggest valtrex?

once you have hsv1 orally, it's not likely that you'd contract it genitally. I'd double check on your results to make sure indeed your culture was typed as hsv1 and honestly I'd follow up with more blood work to see if indeed you don't have hsv2 also. Hsv1 genitally tends not to reoccur and it wouldn't present as frequently as your symptoms. discharge with herpes isn't yellowish - it's clear.

I wouldn't treat with valtrex at this point, I'd be seen today or tomorrow for a proper exam and more testing.

Yes I had  a lesion culture. I have had a couple cold sores in my life, but not many. Now I am having them a lot. They are not very big or noticeable, just to me.  I have not been back to Dr but have thought about it as every now and again I am having some yellowy discharge. It isnt an everyday occurrence, I guess I have noticed it 3-4 seperate times since being diagnosed. Its so confusing knowing what is a HSV symptom and what is not.
I did call Dr today and they have called me in a prescription for Valtrex. I am praying something works for me.

did you have a lesion culture that came back as hsv1+?

lysine doesn't do anything for genital herpes. no reason to supplement with it since you already get more than enough of it in your diet.

how long have you had cold sores?

have you been back to get tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally with this new batch of genital symptoms?
