whats the risk

I have been diagnosed for about a year with genital herpes and have not had sex since my diagnosis date because I am terrified of passing it to someone else. I am newly starting to talk to someone and although we have not had sex we have touched each other and been naked with each other. The first time this happened was a few days before I had an outbreak and the next time was after my outbreak was over. I am starting to obsessively worry about giving him herpes. Does anyone know what risk we are at just touching or what some precautions are. He knows I have this but I am not sure he knows the severity of it and I just want to keep him safe. Please help.

do you have hsv1 or hsv2 genitally?

how do you treat your herpes?

have you and your fellow started talking std's and testing and such  yet?  if you had your clothes off with him, it's way past time to do so for your OWN PROTECTION!! it's so not all about just the herpes you know you have !!

some of the info in the reply life360 cut and pasted wasn't correct :(    once you answer my questions, I'll give you better info :)

Thank you for responding. I appreciate it. Herpes has terrified me since the day I got diagnosed with it over a year ago. I am just now trying to accept it and move on with my life.

Hi and welcome. Im not an expert in this but did see this reply to another person below. I hope is helps.

"Welcome to the forum!  I'm glad you've found someone in your life that is being supportive of your situation and is helping you along.

To answer your first question, if you take all preventative measures, such as antiviral medication, condoms, and avoidance of sexual activity during symptoms, your chances of passing hsv2 to your man are incredibly low.  If you're looking for a concrete number, it's about 2%.  It is more difficult for hsv2 to transmit from woman to man than from man to woman.  For reference, you have an 8% chance of preventing pregnancy by only using the pill.

To your second question, it's not "safe" for him to give you oral sex, however, the odds are very low that you would transmit hsv2 to him orally through oral sex.  It's something that I would not worry about.

Lastly, fingering is a no risk activity, no need to worry about it.

Hope this helps.  Here's a website I referenced for information.  It also has some really nicely written articles about hsv2. "
