why do i get so many outbreaks?

Why do i get so many outbreaks? Since being diagnosed two years ago, I still get an outbreak every two months. I only use valtrex when i have an outbreak (twice a day for 5 days), but my doctor says that even so my outbreaks should get less frequent over time. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for your quick and informative response, I will definetely look into famvir, I know it is cheaper than the valtrex with my insurance.

Ob's don't necessarily get less frequent over time.  One study showed that 1/4 of folks have less ob's after 5 years of infection, 1/4 had more and the rest all had about the same number of ob's.  It's different for everyone and probably has more to do with genetics than anything else.

You are having 6 ob's a year which I would assume is annoying. Why not consider suppressive therapy with one of the 3 herpes antivirals to reduce the number of ob's you are having so that you 1 - aren't having so many and 2 - your sex life is interrupted less often because of ob's?  If valtrex is too pricey for you on your insurance - look into famvir or acyclovir - both are available as a cheaper generic and is usually more affordable with insurances.

If you've never read the herpes handbook before I suggest you give it a read. It has more info on treatments for further reading - www.westoverheights.com.
