years of undiagnosed herpes and chronic cellular damage

I acquired herpes 15yrs ago, never had breakouts on my penis. However they happened quite frequently on my pubic area above my penis. I was quite ignorant about the virus, I thought the lesions only came on the penis, so for a long time I would get breakouts that only lasted a week & by the time I got to the doc they were mostly gone, blood tests came back negative many times for herpes. Now 15 yrs later I was diagnosed with herpes through a blood test, but it has been 3-4 yrs since I had a breakout since they started and until now I have had GI troubles, weight loss, headaches, multiple food sensitivities, and sleep problems. I was on opiate pain meds for 4 yrs through the VA and they would deliver the meds 1-2 weeks late nearly every month which caused withdrawals every month. I read a study on opiate induced endocrinopathy. I went from 200lbs of solid muscle to 155lbs, I started acyclovir 400mg X-2 and now weigh anywhere from 180-190, but I feel like **** all the time. I want to know if herpes left untreated along with endocrinopathy can damage cells throughout the body if left untreated for 15 years, the docs at the VA are not the best, and have no answers.

you never, ever, EVER have to treat herpes simplex dear .Treating it just makes you more comfortable as well as if taken daily, can reduce ob's as well as transmission to a partner. There is no long term damage to be done by not treating herpes.

You've had multiple negative blood tests for herpes and now 1 positive test. If you can get the results of your most current test to post here, I will gladly take a look at it to see if it's a low positive and needs further confirmatory testing done to see if you really do have hsv2 or not.

certainly every time you have symptoms, you should be seen and get a proper work up and lesion cultures done.   many gi related issues also have skin issues associated with them. certainly can't assume all of this is herpes related even if you do end up confirming that you have hsv2.

You need to be seen for your other symptoms, clearly they are unrelated to herpes.

I highly doubt all the problems youve faced is due to herpes. im not saying you don't have herpes, but even if you do, ive never heard of a case where it causes long-term damage. it certainly wouldn't have cause you to lose 50 lbs. i know its tough but you should keep looking for doctors until youve found one who can give you an answer. but again, theres something else going on here, and the "chronic cellular damage" sounds off
