Can HS be food related?

I'm 19 and I've had HS (never talked to my doctor about it, but I assume open/recurring abscesses in your armpits is not normal and counts as HS) for about 3 years now. I had a stomach bug a week and a half ago and barely ate a thing for a few days. When I did eat it was fruit or chicken broth/vegetables. The HS instantly cleared up for several days after that. It was almost completely healed. Now that I'm eating my normal diet, it's back with a vengeance. Luckily mine's pretty manageable--I just can't wear white--and there's only a lot of pain sometimes, but if there's something I'm eating that's causing it, I'll cut it out in a HEARTBEAT. Are there any common trigger foods for HS? I go some stretches of eating really unhealthy processed foods and I know that can aggravate it, but I don't always eat completely horribly and eating healthy whole grain/fruit/vegetable for awhile has never helped at all. The only thing that has come close to fixing my problem was hardly eating at all.

I'm not aware of any foods being related to HS. I was a vegan and still got it, on a raw diet and still got it, etc. I've never read, been told by dr or another sufferer that certain foods can cause flares or anything. You could ask a dermatologist though. It could've been because your body was already on the defense because you were sick. Were you on antibiotics or anything?

I forgot, I once read somewhere someone believed theirs was associates with potatoes. They cut them out and hadn't had a flare since. I tried no potatoes for a couple months after this, no luck. The cause of HS is unknown. Some researchers have tried to link it to a few conditions (thyroid, RA, Chron's Etc), But like many sufferers I have none of these so this doesn't help. There's some good quotes about all this in another thread, I think it's called something like Thyroid conditions and HS. Hope this helps!
