Do I have HPV

Hello MD, I had 3-4 sexual contacts with a guy with genital warts. Do you thik is possible to develop HPV? Am I contagious in the incubation period?

There is a high chance that you caught it but there is no test for HPV warts without a wart present so there is no way of knowing. However up to 80% of the sexually active population catches HPV at some time or another. The good news is that the CDC says that in a health person HPV will clear. The pertains to about 90% of all cases within the first two years.

This is the community site. There are no MD's here.

If you want to talk to a doctor, medhelp's expert forums are for you. Many questions are repeated, so I would suggest searching that forum before posting. This way you can avoid the fee.

HPV is very contagious, and many people who are exposed to the virus will become infected. But if you were infected with this strain previously, you are likely immune.

Many people with genital wart causing HPV do not notice warts. Sometimes there are no symptoms, other times the symptoms are not noticed.

If you have an infection, you will be contagious, but warts cannot be treated or diagnosed unless they are visible.

You should make sure you get your regular PAPs to test for complications from a cervical infection.
