Anal Warts - is my Doctor Correct?

About three or four months ago I felt with my finger and bump about an inch or so inside my anal canal.  When I went to my Doctor about four weeks back for my annual check-up, I asked him to perform a check in my rectum, because at the time I was experiencing burning and itching on/in my anus.  My doctor checked things out down there and swabbed the internal tissue and sent to a lab to test for HPV.  The test results cam back negative and we discovered that my burning and itching symptoms were from eating about a cup or more of hot sauce per day.
Well, needless to say, I stopped my hot sauce intake and no more symptoms, however, when I feel inside I can still feel the bumps.  Also, when I push my rectum and spread it open to really examine the looks of things down there, I can see the white rice-shaped (maybe a little larger) bumps.  At this point, I am not convinced that my Dr. is accurate in his assessments and he has no reasoning or explanation for the bumps.  What advise can you provide?  What does this sound like and could it be possible that I do not have an STD, but rather something else - maybe even something even more serious??

If the lab came back saying that it's not HPV, then it's not HPV.  Stop worrying.  There are variations in skin, it's normal, forget about it.
