How do you protect your family?

Hi,

I am a high-risk hpv carrier. I know that hpv is transmitted skin to skin.   However, I have some questions.

Does soap and water kill it or could you contract it on your hands just by washing yourself? I guess probably not but What do you think? I read some inusual cases where it happpened.

What about fingernails? Could you then transmit it to any part of your body? I read some research notes talking about it.

How long the virus live outside the body and in what conditions? Nobody seems to know it. Minutes, hours, days?

How can I clean surfaces on my home to protect my family who lives with me? It seems common disinfectans fails. There is an article published about that.

Can I share soap, toilet seats, shower, washing machine? How do you disinfect them?

How do you cope with hpv to protect your loved ones in your daily life? It would be nice to know your own experience.

I searched the web but answers are confuse so I hope I can get more answers here from more knowledgeable and experienced people.

Thanks.

The virus can remain under fingernails (they found the virus on Egyptian Mummies) but passing the virus requires sexual contact (rubbing of genital skin) or oral transmission like oral sex, kissing or sharing cigs. Some people have reportedly passed it by touching their genitals and then touching someone else's genitals but you won't be doing this to your family.

As you wrote, you have no idea if you have the high risk strain because there is no test for men. Even men with low risk strains (warts) cannot know if they also have the high risk strains. Most sexually active adults have multiple strains.

Based on what I have read, your family should not worry. If they touch a door handle in a doctor's office, should they worry about getting it from someone else who also touches the same door?  Your fear is based on lack of concrete info that says your are dangerous to your family. I disagree with your assumptions and this fear. Please stop stressing like this. It can lead to heart disease, insomnia, etc.

Hi Bing10, I appreciate your answer.

HPV is a weird thing. I read a lot of info about it and it seems to be so contradictory sometimes. I am a man and I know my condition because my last girlfriend was treated. She was my second partner in my whole life and I got this. Funny world! I don't know what strains I have, she didn't tell me (16/18 strains for what I've read seems to be, between the high risk strains, the common ones).

Many people think that the immune system clear up the infection after 2 years, even with the high risk strains what I don't know if how often the recurrences show up. A woman may know very well this because she have pap smears regularly but a man simply don't know until is too late I guess. I visited several doctors and they didn't do anything for me, I am just here waiting for the future to come in for me and catch me.

I am living with my parents right now, they are old people so I guess vaccine it is not possible. I have many questions about hpv but I don't know if it is healthy to know all the facts (I read a lot).  We all are going to die, people with or without hpv but I don't think we are going to die soon. Not many people with hpv participate in a more personal way here, so if you wanna share some facts or just say "Hi" you can count on me.

I can see your paranoia I get it I had the high risk too but the deadliest of them all. My doctor scared me the most she told me I was going to die she gave me no hope. so my solution to you is get your family vaccinated against the strain of what you have, to protect them. From the info you provided it seems you are a woman because she would be the only one to know if she has high or low risk unless you were informed. Otherwise it is a sexually transmitted infection the way you make it sound is if it was HIV.you can kiss your family hug and even share. My recommendation is unless your sticking fingers up them genitals and putting your hands down pants or in mouths you don't need to freak out. Do your laundry separately if it bothers you that much. As far as soap... Alot of the time that works with hot water and if your supper paranoid wash it two times.but give yourself a chance your not that lethal unless you set out to be.

Hi, everyone.

I know there are people with hpv who live with their parents or with a roomate or have children. How do you protect the people you care the most?

I read that common disinfectans don't work but on another website I've read some good things about bleach to do the laundry or clean the surfaces. How do you do?

Does soap work? I read that soap is fine to eliminate bacterias but not with hpv. What do you use?

I can't see hpv with my eyes but I know is there, I know what it can do so I want to protect my family from my mistakes. Does anyone feel the same?

Thanks for your time.
