Do I need a Pap Smear?

Hello I'm an 18 year old virgin. I've never had any type of sexual intercourse. The only sexual activity I've ever had was one episode receiving oral sex about two years ago which also involved fingering and another episode of fingering about  6 months ago. Both of them were with the same guy. When I received oral sex from him he was a virgin but the second time (which only involved fingering) he was not. My questions are: Could I be infected with HPV from these activities? If so, do I need a Pap Smear and when? If receiving oral sex is considered to be sexually active I've been sexually active for 2 years. Thank you.

Also, it's important to note that males can carry HPV under their fingernails. Just FYI !

Thanks! I did have a routine ecography about 3 months ago and my doctor said I was OK but I know that cervical cancer can only be detected with a Pap Smear so the next time I go to my gynecologist I'll ask him to do one. I too think I'm OK regarding STDs. I'm having an operation in a few days so I've undergone lots of tests including HIV, Clamydia, Hepatitis etc. (All negative). I'm also having a vaginal swab done in a few weeks because I recently had a yeast infection and my doc said they also test for Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis etc. So basically the only thing I need testing for is HPV. Thanks again. =)

It's probably a good idea to have a basic pap smear and pelvic exam.  I too was a virgin when I was 18 and was told by a nurse that I didn't need a pelvic exam or pap smear unless I'd actually had intercourse.  This was horrible advice as there are many types of STDs caused by oral sex and genital to genital contact.  But, based on what you've said, you're probably safe from STDs.  Having a pap smear/pelvic exam will ease your  mind and keep you from stressing unnecessarily (like I do).
