There are other countries that do use the same exact vaccine for men also. I think insurance companies have something to do with it
Insidious darn virus!30% chance with condoms is speculation!like Helen Reddy sang yes i'm wise but its wisdom 4 the pain.....this is how we learn..and there r those who i encounter don't!or better put choose not 2!
I was pretty good about using condoms and still got hpv so go figure. I would bank on the 30% as well.
Dr.Hook had said condoms reduce transmission 60-90%..that is a large margin of error to get 10-30%!!!!!i'd bank on the thirty!and higher with the warts for condom only covers penis and not thighs buttocks etc where virus lurks as well!
Men transmit HPV to women so I don't know why the vaccine is not recommended for men as well. Probably the reasoning behind it is because it's women that suffer from the effects of hpv (i.e. cervical cancer) and men don't.
As for "clearing" from the body, it can take any where from 6 months to 1 1/2 yrs to clear and we know that men can get around a lot during that time. It would be great to see a study on how many women one man with HPV could infect. It's pretty much 100% transmission rate if you have sex with someone with an active HPV infection It's a skin virus and very easy to get. Condoms don't even offer much protection (I don't care what the dr's on this forum say). Most people have already been exposed to it by the time they are 21.
This is a very good question to pose 2 Drs.Hook and Handsfield in the Experts Forum.I have read where some men were consenting to be used as research subjects with the Gardisil vaccine......this i deduce is only in research stage and i read in the www.ashastd.org site that Austrailia was working on a vaccine for low risk for both men and women which is promising. With high risk in men they don't have a cervix that high risk likes to go live on so i suspect thats why the women only thing!HPV really started to explode on2 the health scene in 2002-2003 as quite the public health issue so its really in a new phase of research at present. My gyno said in 10 years there will be most likely be a cure for it.....don't we all wish!:)
