HPV high risk strang and neck cancer

Hi everyone,
I watched a programme today on the risks of oral cancer which horrified me. About 3 years ago I was diagnosed with HPV and had an abnormal smear/pap result. A year ago I went for a private screening in which i was told I had several strands of high risk HPV but no cervical changes. I was told not to worry about it and to lead my life as normal.
Today I watched this program and was shocked. I was more concerned with getting cervical cancer in the future. Apparently HPV can lead to neck cancer. This worries me as I have been with my bf for 2 years now and engage in various activities including oral sex. I also have a lump at the back of my neck which has been there a few months but have dismissed it. Im also worried i may have put him at risk.
Some advice would be nice please. Thanks

You would need to ask a GYN doc about that. My ENT doc has only seen oral HPV issues in kids who were born with a mom who had HPV present. During birth the baby get a lot of stuff in their mouth and because their immune system is not fully developed they are at risk. I would guess that if a woman has cell changes or warts then she would need a c-section. I would think that because HPV is so common and RRP is rare then not all women with HPV will pass it to their babies. If I were pregnant I would be concerned and want to take whatever precaution to insure a healthy baby.

Thanks Mags! I will def do that. Btw I read from a previous post that you can pass on HPV during child birth to your child? Can you give me some more information on this? For example, are there any ways of preventing passing on HPV during child birth? Thanks!

Make an appointment to have the lump checked out. Don't stress yourself out and find out the facts before you freak out or scare your bf too. By now your abnomal cells have prob passed. You should have yearly paps. These oral risks are extremely low and even though your bf prob has been exposed to HPV he is not at any huge risk for oral issues. :)
